I bought a ring about 6 months ago that I'm in love with. It's a diamond eternity band and when I purchased it, it was in cooler weather so the ring fit perfectly. However, now that temperatures have sky rocketed where I live, the ring fits quite differently. My finger is a size 4.75 and the ring is a 5. When I'm outside in the heat, I can barely get it off, but as soon as I get in the car or a store with A/C, it's totally fine again. If I decide to return the ring, I will either look for a totally different setting that I can get made just over a size 5, (but not a 5.25) OR will get this ring made but have the diamonds only go about 80% around so it can be resized. The ring doesn't squeeze my finger or hurt in the heat, but I just "notice" it, as it's much wider than my usual wedding band. Also, this isn't a ring I will wear daily but want the option of wearing daily.

Anyhow, are there people out there who wear wide bands that have noticed this and can tell me whether this is something they just 'got used to' or if it became really unbearable. I realize it's all about personal preference, but am curious about peoples' experiences!

THANK YOU! Will post pics when I can upload!

Here is the band and the imprint it left on my finger while sitting typing. I did take it off many times today to see if it was leaving an imprint and it didn't... Until now.

Hmmm. That gorgeous gorgeous ring definitely looks uncomfortable with that mark it left. The weather's being freaky, I wonder if your hand is over reacting. Maybe give it a few more weeks to see if it keeps happening? If it wasn't bothering you and rarely happens I'd just not wear it at those times.

Thanks etk!!

Ironically, it was the first time all day it left an imprint this noticeable. I was def aware of it today, but I think I'm just used to skinny bands so wearing something wide is new to me. I'm going to wear for another week or two!

It's like my size 16 Love bracelet saga all over again! LOL! Actually, not that bad at all! Today in the 90 degree heat I was so happy I went up a size in the Love!

The ring doesn't look too small at all, and honestly, many people find an imprint of their ring (that isn't red or irritated) when they remove it. That isn't unusual, IMO. If you love the ring, I would just deal with it. Fingers change size depending on the weather, and having a ring sized in between is the perfect solution. My rings get tighter when the weather is hot, and I don't even notice it now. You probably notice it more because it is a wider band and because it is new, but I think it is the proper size, and I don't see any sense in returning something you love for a "problem" that won't go away. You either deal with it or you don't ever wear any rings (which is no solution at at all to me).

It's not red or irritated, just an imprint. SO glad you said all of this because that's what I needed to hear! Of course my other rings get tighter too, but since the are all thinner bands its no big deal. In fact my ER fits much better in the heat!

Yes, def love this ring and just wanted to know if this was normal with wider bands and if people get imprints like this too! THANK YOU!

Thanks all for your sweet compliments... It's so much prettier IRL too!

Oh, ring is a special order from Nordstrom fine jewelry. I bumped into an SA from there recently and she said I could return it, but I would be so sad to do that! Will wear some more, think I just need to get used to it!

This is why I love tPF!! MANY THANKS!

Your hands will change size several times even in one DAY, let alone the year. But wider bands do fit differently than a thinner one will, you do have to size up more than your normal ring size to accommodate them. If it ends up seriously snug to the point of serious discomfort...then you know you have to size it for summer. Otherwise...a little dent, not a big deal. Mine leave a dent in my finger too.

Thanks Ame! Was hoping you would chime in! I don't think it's discomfort, just concern because I'm not used to it.

Your ring is gorgeous! I think you'll be fine. Fluctuations in weather cause this. I get finger dents in the summer. :smile1: But, personally, I would rather have my rings a tad tight as opposed to loose. I know someone who lost a precious ring in the winter when their ring flew off their hand.

Thank you! Yes, I do agree. Actually, they originally convinced me to buy this ring in a 5.25, which was HUGE!!
