Hello, I'm looking to get my first LV bag, and after much contemplation and back-and-forth, I set my sights on the Danube over the Amazon. I've narrowed down the bag that I'm interested in to 2 choices: 1 made in 1988 and the other made in 2010. They are around the same price and I am having trouble deciding because the quality of the 1988 is higher than that of the 2010 one, imo. But regarding the flaws, there is some blow powder from age in the outer pocket for the 1988 one. The 2010 seems to be in better condition in regards to the quality of the inside and outside pockets. I'm just having trouble deciding which one I should pick. Please advise! Thank you

1988

2010

Oh the two I'd probably prefer a newer bag. But honestly you might want to keep looking. For example the one below is more expensive, but it looks alot better IMO. And for the older bags you need to read carefully about any odors. It doesn't matter how good it looks if it stinks!

Hi, thank you for your reply. :) Honestly, in spite of the price point, I don't really see a difference from the other more expensive ones I've came across aside from the condition of the vachetta. I like the bag you shared, but I would prefer a "Made in France" one. I will keep looking, thanks again. :)

To me the condition of the vachetta is important. I won't buy a bag with stains, but if it doesn't bother you, there are plenty of options. Good luck with your search! Also, did you know LV is re-releasing this bag as part of the cruise 2021 collection? It will have hearts on it though.

Hi again!

Why is the condition of the vachetta important to you?

Thank you ^_^ I was very particular about the various danube I saw that had peeling/stickiness on the inner/outer pockets, which is how I ended up narrowing down to the 1988 vs 2010.

Ahh I just googled and saw the collection on hypebeast. It's a mini one(?) I think. The hearts give the danube a very youthful and modern touch. The cruise collection is giving me Alice in Wonderland vibes overall.

Of these two I prefer the 1988 as the vachetta is more consistent in colour and without stains. All vintage LV from Japan is prone to stickiness/mould stains due to the high humidity. Stickiness in a pocket doesn't bother me, I would just not use that pocket. You do want to be careful about the health of the vachetta strap as if this is weak then it may snap after a few uses.

Thanks for your comment, it was very helpful and I learned a lot. :)
