Hi! So I bought my first Chanel bag today. I got the medium Chanel boy in quilted caviar and gold hardware. I should have looked through the posts here first before buying because now I’m torn between the 22k Coco first and the Chanel boy. For reference I’m 5’2”. I prefer just black and nude/tan tones. I have a lady dior, a dior saddle, ysl sunset and a goyard tote so I want something that’ll go with all those. What do you all think?? Should I return the boy and wait to get my hands on a Coco First? The closest Chanel to my city is 5 hours away too so that’s not fun :/

Thanks for the response! So I initially have been dreaming of the Trendy CC but when I got to the store, for some reason it didn’t look good on me as I hoped it would. On the other hand, I thought the boy was no longer popular but when I tried it on, I was shocked that I actually really liked it! But because I feel the boy is no longer popular, Idk if it’s worth USD 6k. The Coco First however is only 4.8k (although I also heard, it’s hard to get and the strap is too long).

I’m only visiting and there’s no Chanel in our city, have to drive 5 hours and apparently Chanel only delivers if you’ve been a customer in the past so I’m thinking this will be a good start for me to have one and then eventually just order online through my SA.

Medium boy is prettier and looks great shoulder wear or crossbody, this Coco first is like a modified square mini but not as cute as square mini, it's too boxy, and too big for the square shape to look good, the front flap in the middle opening makes it look like a vintage bag, I personally would chose medium or large boy over this coco first.

Hi
IMHO Value of a purse depends on how much you love the bag and cost per wear. Popularity come and go, but what matters is how much you love the piece, if it can be incorporated to your outfits and how much you would enjoy it.
Channel bags are expensive so play with your outfits and see if boy is something you would see yourself wearing. Otherwise it’s best to save that money and wait for something that you truly love! GL!

If you clearly like one bag over the other, that’s the one you should get. I’d rather spend $6k on a bag that I love than save $1.2k and get a bag I don’t love as much/won’t reach for. FWIW, I love my boy so, so much.

Wow, that’s such a good way of describing it. It’s like I suddenly had this FOMO for the new style but then I thought I can just get a similar style at the resale market for a vintage piece!

I have both the boy (but in a small) and the Coco First and they are two very different bags IMHO. The boy is edgier and works well both crossbody and on the shoulder (I’m your height). The Coco First works better as a shoulder bag for me. It can be worn crossbody but because of the shape (reminds me of a loaf of bread sometimes lol), I prefer carrying it on my shoulder. It has a more classic, feminine look. So it really depends on your wardrobe and what would be a good fit! If you love the boy now, you should keep it. I won’t worry about whether a bag is “popular” or not - as long as you would wear it!

I spent the last day trying to curate the outfits in my head! Haha and I came to a conclusion that I will keep the boy :) I’m excited! They’re shipping it to me so I can save a couple hundred on taxes!
