Help.. Birkin 35mm or 40mm

Would love to hear from people on the size. I’m about to buy a preloved 40. I’m 5’8 about 160 pounds and love big bags. Is the 40 a good size? I like to carry my pouches and iPad and work in NYC. This is the Togo which I heard is lighter. Thanks for your help!!

I personally don't own a size 40, because it's too big and too heavy. I do on the other hand, own 35's and can tell you for sure that they are very spacious but also heavy. I grab mostly my 30's nowadays.

Have only 35s. I use them all the time. I think a 40 would be too big, but perhaps a search would lead to some photos.

I know people complain about weight, even about the smaller Bs, but I haven't had a problem. I don't fill mine to the top though. I am guessing a 40 would be in a heavier leather, just to keep its shape etc. Especially if it's an older 40.

35mm is really tiny On the other hand 35cm is a classic size for anyone and will definitely hold an iPad. Togo is not a super-light leather, though.
To me a 40 looks more like a travel bag, unless you are close to six feet tall.

All of mine are 35 and when I travel and load 'em up they're rather heavy. I think the dimensions of the 40 are better suited for men and of course they're heavier. But if you love it, go for it.

I dont own a Birkin but although I'm only 5'3" when the time comes to buy one I will almost certainly look for a 40cm
I dont have a classic chic look and for me the 40 would just feel a bit 'cooler' a bit less ladylike

I tried on a 40 once and it was huge, I’m 5’6. You may like a 40 if you like big bags, but I think carrying that for any length of time would be problematic. I have a 35 in Togo in which I carry my laptop, iPad, sometimes a bottle of water and other essentials (it is never completely filled up) and I definitely feel the weight even though I walk a short distance. I definitely wouldn’t want to walk with mine in NYC.

a 40 B is too large even as a substitute briefcase - it looks like an overnight bag and not really a practical size for a woman imo

i'm 5'5 and around 100-110 and the 35 looks disproportionally large on me. I use the 35 B as a travel or overnight bag! It's super heavy so it's a nice "get to your location and park your bag" situation.

I am 5,5 and the opposite of petite. I always feel the 35 on me looks like 30 on the slimmer ladys. You are taller, so a 40 could work for you, but the 35 is spacious and already has a substantial weight...

It can really depend. I'm 5'2 and 140 pounds and even when I don't put too much in my B30, it can get heavy. Is there a return policy with the pre-loved bag? I know it can be difficult/impossible right now with the pandemic to see/try something in person, so if you can't return it, I'd advise to wait. B35 might be better.

I will say that at your height I think you could rock a 40. Frankly there are no rules about this. It is all about comfort with your own bag and attitude when you wear it. It will be a bit heavy but a loaded up 35 is also heavy. If you are attracted to a big bag then go for it.

I carried a Gold Togo ghw 40B for a few years.
I’m 5’6” - I loved it as it held a lot of my belongings (and more). However, I eventually switched to an Iris Togo 35B because I felt the size was much more manageable for me.

I think it’s best to try both sizes on to see which works best for you (although it may be difficult right now, so hopefully when stores reopen).

Thanks all. I ended up buying the 40. Got it authenticated and I can return if I choose. With my height and heels the size shouldn’t be too overwhelming. price seemed good as this is like new condition.
