True to size for every material but wool. Size up for the wool - it shrinks about a half size after a cleaning, dry or wet.
Do you find the pants/trousers/jeans run true to size? Specifically, the brand after 2005.
I have tons of HL and it's one of the only labels whose sizing I have yet to understand as it can be ALLLLLLL over the map. The most consistent thing I've found is size down for everything.
For example, as far as numeric sizing is concerned: if you're normally a 6, get the 4. If you're a 27, get the 26.
The XS, S, M, L sizing is almost always TTS.
Now, if you have specialized measurements like a shapely bottom, fuller thighs than average, or a large chest, you should play it safe and get your usual size. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anymore help.I've had to send back a ton of HL through sizing trial and error. I wish I had someone help me before all of that!
I've always read to size down for wool, since it stretches....

Are you sure you were reading about wool? It absolutely shrinks after laundering. (i.e.: http://forum.purseblog.com/the-wardrobe/how-how-much-does-wool-shrink-doing-purpose-512094.html)
Regardless, for me, Helmut Lang is true to size, except for the wool.
Yes, in regards to wool. Anyhoo, the pants arrived and fit great, size is spot on.

Hey! I am about to buy some HL tops and need help with sizing. The above quote is helpful- but all the models on websites wear a small or xs and I usually wear the same sizes as models So I have idea what size in HL tops I'd be. Any help? I'm 5'5" 34a-26-36 and 112. I'm a sz 2 in shirts. A size small usually in sweaters. So is this an xs or small in HL? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

I agree that the XS, S, M, L sizing is generally TTS...but with many exceptions. You may have to size up with his slim-fitting jersey tops because the armholes are very narrow and the sleeves are tight. With his looser-fitting and more drapey items (i.e. blouses), you might be able to size down, BUT it totally depends on the piece. He makes the same styles of blouses from season to season...sometimes I can size down, sometimes I can't.
I can't speak to the numerical sizing because I've only ever bought tops from HL, which are usually sized as XS/S/M/L. As for the wool stuff, I personally haven't experienced shrinkage (I dry clean them). I just received the gray wool shawl cardigan (http://www.lagarconne.com/store/item.htm?itemid=18033#) and it's TTS, though much shorter than I thought it'd be.
Which brings me to this observation: I've been surprised by how some pieces can appear *shorter* IRL than they do on the models (and I always expect the opposite, because I'm only 5'2"). The models usually wear XS or S, but when I receive the item, sometimes it's WAY shorter than it looked in the photo. Maybe they do some kind of modeling/Photoshop magic to make his pieces look longer and drapier on the models...?
It's like Mia said, HL sizing is REALLY inconsistent so it's kind of hard to generalize sizing advice. But based on your measurements, I would think that a Small is your safest bet, just be prepared to size up or down occasionally.HTH somehow!
