Hello Everyone,

I'm in a search for an engagement ring. And I need some help. I'm interested in purchasing a heart on fire diamond, I love the brilliance of the diamond and everything about it. I've never seen anything quite like it before. I was actually looking to get a bigger carat size but when I talked to a jeweler I was told that 1.5 carat HoF would cost about 30,000. Does that sound about right? I would love to hear from any HoF owners.

I just noticed I missed the t in hearts, was typing fast.

Yea I would check out Goodoldgold.com for H&A stones to put in a real HOF setting, there are others that sell them also, but GOG puts their stones through the ringer!

"Hearts On Fire" is a perfect cut for Diamonds not a setting, just like other Patented Diamond Cuts like Montblanc Diamond or Leo Diamond. You can set it in whatever setting you prefer.

'Hearts on fire' is a trademark/brand name for a precision cut diamond that shows what are called 'hearts and arrows'. You have a very good chance of getting an extremely sparkly round brilliant diamond if it's cut this way, though there are other ways to cut round brilliants that are also attractive. (and some people actually don't like the precise, geometrical look of a 'hearts and arrows' diamond).

I have certified hearts and arrows earrings (from whiteflash.com) and I have a ring with a diamond that is not certified hearts and arrows, but is an AGS 000 Ideal cut (that shows hearts and arrows). I have to say that so far as light performance, the earrings and the ring outperform anything else I own and also other people's diamonds that I see around day-to-day. I guess what I am trying to say is that you can get the performance w/o the premium you pay from the company Hearts on Fire. I priced out earrings the same size as mine which were Hearts on Fire and they were about $5,000 more and it was really just paying for the name--I have the same precision cut.

for more info on this, you could go to pricescope.com

You can definitely find "hearts and arrows" diamonds without paying for the retail Hearts & Arrows company markup. Try looking at bluenile.com and search for their "signature" diamonds - all of them will exhibit the hearts and arrows effect because any symmetrical standard round cut diamond will display this effect. The H&A diamond is not the result of a special cut unless you opt for a special round cut to increase the number of hearts and arrows. I believe eight is standard, but specialized twelve h&a cuts do exist - though they're much rarer.

I don't see why the setting would make a difference. The Tiffany (six prong) setting allows the most light play but if you find something else you like, or a low-profile diamond would fit your lifestyle better, go with that.

And I doubt you're looking, but the Signity cubic zirconia, Wink Jones cubic zirconia, and Asha coated cubic zirconia all offer hearts and arrows cuts. The effect is not unique to diamond.

I'm sure you could even find an H&A diamond at Costco if you looked hard enough.

Happy hunting!

^I've heard the Blue Nile signature cuts are inconsistent. Definitely they do not all display a hearts and arrows effect.

On Blue Nile, I think your best best is to look for AGS certified Ideal cut diamonds (the 000's) and then to run them through that calculator they have on Pricescope. I did this and mine displays perfect arrows (you can't see the hearts once the diamond is set) in my Hearts and Arrows viewer.

If you want to get an H&A without paying the premium, the viewer might be a good investment--you could use it on diamonds in stores. I don't think they're very expensive (I got mine for free from Whiteflash.com when I bought my earrings there).

But again, there are diamonds which are not H&A which are beautiful, and as stated above, there are CZ cut now to H&A specs, h&A only means the precision cutting, nothing else.

Hello, viviglam, my DH bought my HOF diamond several years ago and I've really enjoyed wearing it. Do not know about today's pricing, but can highly recommend the HOF stones.

Blackjade, interesting to hear that bluenile can be inconsistent with the signature cuts! Hope that's not the case but thanks for the info :). I've inherited all my diamonds but don't really wear them so I've never really shopped for ones, just read info about what makes them so awesome.

Pricescope runs a very good forum I read from time to time so that looks like a good place to start. They're known for over-analyzing a lot.

vivaglam, the stone is 3.174 I color SI1.

The mount in the pic is a 6 prong Stuller platinum, however, the stone is now in a custom made mount of 4 platinum prongs in an 18K yelllow gold shank.

Vivaglam, may I ask if you've considered purchasing a Solasfera or an Eighternity cut diamond? Ask a jeweler to let you look at all three side by side. If you're going to pay a premium for a branded round diamond, you should get the exact effect you're looking for. There are round diamond cuts which display more brilliance and fire than a traditionally faceted H&A diamond.

Here's an interesting link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkKhWf1-oKU

I hope this helps you as well.
