A few weeks ago, I decided I was going to give myself a wonderful gift for my upcoming 50th birthday, an Evelyne GM III. I shopped around, authenticated, and selected one in Raisin from an online reseller. It is brand-new, never worn, and I currently have it on layaway. Now, I am not a millionaire, and I already have a remarkable and lovely collection of high-end designer/luxury bags (LV, Fendi, MJ, etc.) This would be my very first Hermes. Do I really need it? Will I be too self-conscious to carry it? Is it really worth almost $3K?!? (I know, I'm posting in the H forum... enablers, all of you :p...)

Only you can answer the question whether you will be self conscious or not. I think your Hermes bag should be a source of pleasure, not worry. If you are already having second thoughts, perhaps this is not the right decision for you. I understand...Good Luck with your decision. Raisin is a beautiful color...

Yes, you do need it! The Evelyne is the most comfortable, useful, and beautiful bag. You will never regret it. Plus, who can resist Raisin? It is a gorgeous color that will go with everything. The understated style of the Evelyne will never cause you to be self conscious about carrying it.
Your first Hermes will be the perfect gift to commemorate your special day.

I hope you come to a decision that you will be happy with. :hugs:The evelyne was my first H bag and I absolutely love it. But, not every bag is right for everyone. If you're having doubts, I would hold off on your H purchase. Have you ever tried on the evelyne IRL? If that 'heart skips a beat' feeling isn't there when you buy a bag, then you should definitely wait. The right H bag will call you...and when it does, it'll be worth the wait. Good luck!

Well, of course, only you can decide if it's worth it to you---but you could also look for one that's very gently used and closer to 2K, as a huge Evelyne fan I always notice them on ebay and I have seen some good deals over the years. Good luck with your decision!

Only you can decide for yourself if it will fit nicely into your lifestyle and if it is worth it.

That being said, I think the Evelyne, like other non-Birkin/Kelly H bags, is wonderfully under the radar in most places. Most people won't even know it's an H bag even if you hit them with it. If it bothers you, just turn the "H" inwards.

The Evelyne is such a wonderful bag, quite understated and a great casual. Raisin is a fantastic colour, but 3K is not a small sum and if you think you have other bags that are just as functional, you might want to give this a miss.

There will be other chances in future. don't worry.

I totally agree that the evelyne is an absolutely under the radar bag, very casual and perfect for travel. I have recently purchased a pre-loved PM myself and I love it! The only issue I would raise is the size of the bag, I found the GM too big on me when I tried it in person so maybe it would be worth to check it out at your nearest H shop, if that is possible :) raisin is a beautiful color for sure!

Like everyone else said, only you can decide the value for money. I have a raisin GM 3 but it wasn't my first H - Had a kelly, bolide and birkin. I have never been a messenger style bag person but was looking for something I could wear on weekends and travelling and after much consernation on my part I made the plunge. I have no regrets - it is a great casual bag. I also love, love, love the colour and it has turned out to be far more versitile than orginally imagined. It has become "another version of black" for me and I have used it in all seasons and with a light scarf tied to the bag it looked terrific even in the summer.

Good luck in your decision making and let us know what you decide.

.. I agree with all of the above reasoning .. and the ultimate user is you!
If you are buying a H for the sake of having a H, then you know your answer.
But, if it is the leather, the design, by not having it is keeping you awake in the wee hours more than how to pay for it - then you also know your answer:)!

What ever you decide, it will be right for you. GL

I think if you are specifically looking for a messenger bag that has sleek body hugging design, easy access, sturdy construction, gorgeous color, then you've picked the right bag. $3K is alot for what is fairly simple construction, but if you end up using it a lot and it functions well for you, then I say it's worth the high price tag. I don't see a lot of leather messenger bags these days, and the ones I do see are intended to look more beat up or bohemian than the Evelyne. If you don't mind a used bag, you could probably find a GM Evelyne for less than $3K, but personally for a bag that tends to get slouchy with use, I'd prefer paying extra for a brand new never used. Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

You ladies are all GREAT :ghi5:! No, I'm not buying it because it's an Hermes. (Some part of me wishes it weren't.) The more traditional, structured H bags are beautiful, but don't fit my lifestyle. I am buying it because I love the design and the color. I want an easy-to-carry, cross-body bag that is also top-end. (Love me my luxury bags!) No H stores anywhere near me, believe me, so I have to rely on the internet for pics, descriptions, etc. And, I just have to trust that when it arrives it will be every bit as delicious as the tpf'ers who love their Evelynes say it will be. Second payment on the layaway made yesterday... her arrival is nearing!

There's nothing like an under-the-radar "H" bag and I have a few so I speak from experience. 51 here almost 52 and I understand your dilemma.....but life is short and if you can afford it (and I think you can if you already have a little collection of high-end beauties) then I say, "Why not?!"

An Evelyn is a lovely bag that can hold quite a bit. It's not an "in-your-face" bag so you can take it everywhere without feeling self-conscious and it's worth every penny you spend on it. The quality of an Hermes piece is outstanding. This bag will never go out of style and will last a life time.

Enjoy!!!!!
