Just wonder if anyone as ever settled for any defects or blemishes for what they consider a good deal? Like say you were thinking about buying a glovetanned leather bag, but it had a few scratches. I know this type of leather scratches very easily. Would it bother you or would you consider that you got a good deal?

It depends on the deal, how bad and visible the scratches are. Most of the time I return the bag, but if I really like it and can live with it, I occasionally keep it.

I kept the Kaffe Fasset troupe shoulder bag that coach mailed rolled up in a small box. :annoyed: But the deal they made when I called to complain made it ok to keep. It still has some funky creases but they aren't too bad and the bag was sold out so no replacement was available.

If the bag isn't too bad and I really want it I'll keep it if I can't get a replacement.

If it was a really good deal and it was the last one available, I may consider keeping it if the scratches weren't too obvious and deep. If the scratches were quite bad, I think it would affect my enjoyment of the bag even if it was the last on available. Something in my mind wouldn't let me settle.

Nope, I never settle. I have gotten some killer deals at the outlet for 1941 bags, but if they're scratched or dented, I always return them (or try sell them first - I got lucky once and was able to sell a dented Rogue 25 on Mercari to avoid the drive to return it at my outlet!).

For me, even a good deal on a Coach 1941 bag is a lot of money, and I do not allow myself to buy many bags. As such, when I do allow it, I want it to be a perfect, special experience with no flaws. If that's not the case, I'd rather spend my hundred dollars on something else.

wait, they rolled up the flat Troupe bag, the one with the magnetic bar closure? lol. that requires a muscle. I hope it straightened okay for you.

I settle on defects all the time, especially if it's something I really like. My logic is - I will do the same damage to it eventually. Also, if the damage is bad, I try to reason with myself and always try to see if I can customize the bag with some tea roses or other charms at coach create to cover up the scratch or bad dent. The only thing I don't do is wear to corners or straps because I can't cover that up, as well as missing zipper pulls, and it drives me nuts if there are no hangtags!

Scratches no.

Yeah. They did. It was unbelievable when I opened the box. They rolled the bar over so it was flat against the side of the bag. It looks much better now and I always store it stuffed so it stands up.

What's a 1941 bag? I tried to google and a lot of different purses came up.

If you can order another I would try that. Keep both until you decide if either is better. I think it depends on how much it will bother you.

I find that buying used bags with slight blemishes takes the pressure off me to keep the bag pristine, whereas if I bought the bag brand new I feel really bad if I damage it.

I think if the blemish is in the bottom or back in the bag I might settle but if it's on the front or somewhere prominent it might bother me. I only have one 1941 bag from FOS and I ordered two and kept the better one, which was factory wrapped with a dust bag while the other must have been a floor model.

I did buy some Coach sneakers from Marshall's with a blemish because I tend to destroy my shoes rather quickly anyway. And I don't regret that! But handbags I baby much more.
