Hi Everyone,

About 2 weeks ago I placed an order online for some jewelry to be collected in-store. This was a birthday gift to myself. My first piece of LV costume jewelry - a total splurge. I was very excited to bring the little orange bag home. Unfortunately, I opened the box only to find the item was damaged. I was a little deflated. I brought it back to the store the next day. One of the managers helped me, and looked through their stock, but they didn't have any to replace my damaged piece. He apologized and said he would make a phone call to have another sent out and gave me his number. He texted me when my jewelry came in and I went back to the store and the same manager helped me. He again apologized for the inconvenience and thanked me for being a customer. Then he asked if I had ever thought about working at LV. I enthusiastically said I would be interested. I currently have a part-time job to supplement my income which I have grown bored and disillusioned with. He said to send my resume and that he would check his schedule and plan to meet this upcoming week.

I have never worked retail. I don't know if he has a sales position in mind for me or back of house operations or perhaps some sort of customer service position. I'm not really familiar with the various roles within one of their stores. I feel a back of house operations or customer service position would better suit my strengths as opposed to being a client advisor.

Anyways, if you've worked there, how was your experience? What should I wear to an interview? I think this may be a preliminary interview and not a formal one since he kept referring to it as meeting to talk and never using the word interview. But I want to treat it as such, just in case. I watched a YouTube video in which a former employee advised to look the part and reflect the same style as the client advisors. I've only been to a store 2x in my life to pick up my jewelry and wasn't paying attention to what the female employees wore. Should I wear a simple and boring but safe navy suit? Or should I attempt to be more fashionable?

Sorry for such a long post and my apologies if this subject is not allowed on here.

Thank You!

Is there any chance he was hitting on you? It seems highly irregular: my understanding (and it's on the LV website) is that LV corporate does the hiring, not individual store. And you're a client with absolutely no retail experience.

I can't think of a different scenario coming out of a limited interaction. Can you?

There are a several you tubers who have made extensive videos about this. One is a gal who details every bit of what it's like. Her YT name is " A Heated Mess", as well as "Dial M Style". I do not know these people. I just find their bag reviews and LV work experiences fun to watch ... :P

Ugh, I really hope not. But I highly doubt a manager would risk their job under the guise of a job opportunity to hit on a customer. Certainly not during store hours and using their company phone. Right? Especially, if you’re correct and all hiring is exclusively through corporate channels. I would have evidence on my phone that he stepped out of his role and didn’t follow procedures for whatever reason. Maybe managers screen potential hires and kick back resumes and recommendations to corporate? I hope so anyway.

Thank you! I think I’ve seen Dial M Style’s video. I will look at the your other recommendation and look for others. I’m angling for a back of house position and so far I haven’t seen any videos on work experiences In that department. I watched a few videos last night and they were all former client advisors.

I have a friend who works in operations at the Chanel boutique in our city. She enjoys it the hours are good and the pay is decent for people like us without a bachelor’s degree.

At least here in Germany they won't take you without retail experience. Usually you would need to apply on the LV website and after that u will have other steps. A friend of mine (which I sadly lost contact) works at LV and there are many rules.

LV is the pinnacle of luxury retail and you think leaders in the building have nothing better to do than hit on clients by asking them to work there? LV is always looking for great talent and they find talent in various places, including in client interactions. You absolutely do not need retail experience to work at LV. Skills can be taught, talent is innate and you can use examples from your current role and tie them to LV. The client, multitasking, presentation, etc.

To the OP, yes, this is a formal interview, regardless of how you you feel the opportunity was presented to you. They want to see how you will represent the brand and dress code is a huge chunk of the interview. All black head to toe, light makeup, neural colored nails, etc. you need to look the part.

100% correct. Managers use corporate to source them their applicant pool. Untimely, it’s up to the store manager to make the final decision. Plenty of people are hired without going through Talent Acquisition, especially for Client Advisor and ops associate positions.
