i'm obsessed with my current/elliott skinny jeans but they are somewhat big at the waist. it really bothers me and i'm considering getting them taken in a bit but i don't know if that will turn out well.

has anyone had their denim altered at the waist before?

thank you!

All the time! I have to get almost every pair of jeans and/or pants taken in at the waist. It's a really standard alteration. Take them to a tailor...you'll be happier when they fit you perfectly.

I totally agree with Kalbell. Take them to a tailor and be sure to ask them how will they take them in. Some tailors do them the lazy way and it show's. You will have to wear a belt to cover. The good tailors do it in a way that you can't tell if you tried. I'm in Michigan and it cost around $25 for the good jobs.

I get it done on a regular basis bc compared to my waist I have a big butt. I take them to a tailor, this service seems to be more and more popular so some tailors seem to be advertising it, and they always come out perfectly. The most it has ever cost me is $45 and the lowest was $20.

I have the same problem as Talexs. I have some back, so I have to buy pants to accomodate. The waist is always 1 to 2" too big. All my jeans have had the waist taken in. I pay $15 per pair. It is totally worth it to have jeans hemmed and taken in!

I have my tailor take it in enough so I don't have to wear a belt. I don't like the bump that a belt shows if I decide to wear a shirt over my pants instead of tucking in the shirt.

i get all my jeans taken in at the waist, and alllll down the legs because the smallest size (23/24) is usually too big. they will turn out beautifully and you will be so happy with your jeans if you choose to get them taken in  GL (p.s. looove current/elliots!)

LOL, I had the exact same issue! I LUV my current/elliot skinny
jeans! But the waist was a little too big. But thanks to my guy
he made the necassary alterations to them and now they fit
like a glove. I would suggest taking them to a really good tailor.
Don't worry if you find reputable tailor is should turn out great!
*good luck*

OP, not sure where you are in NY but if you are in NYC, you can go to a seamstress in Chinatown and get the jeans taken in at the waist for $5 a pair. I've gotten several pairs of J Brands taken in that way and it looks fine without a belt!

Yes, but make sure you don't just go to anybody. I took a pair to the cleaners and she ruined my pants by putting darts in the tops and now I can't fix it. But I took a pair to the lady at Neiman Marcus (where I got some pants) and she did it perfectly. Don't skimp here.

It kind of amazes me that almost all jeans are cut for women with a waist to hip ratio of 1:1. My waist to hip ratio is like 1:5. Not really but I have big hips for my waist size.
