Has anyone else gone through this?

I think pitching in to help your dad while taking longer to save for the Chanel is a good compromise. What matters is that you and your family are comfortable with the situation.

I think that you have made a great decision! This way, you get to help out your family with all of their bills and yet enjoy something that you really want all the more without feeling any guilt about it. I commend you! I think this is a great compromise and since you will be helping out, you can then use your disposable income as you please and without question. Congrats and ENJOY that new Chanel bag. This is a great time to get it as once you get married and have kids, there will always be other priorities for your money.

luxurista, what you proposed is a great balance between being financially responsible *and* rewarding yourself for your hard work/savings. Your father will be so pleased, I'm sure ! You're a smart cookie....
