I am looking at a beautiful pair of Harry Winston earrings for my birthday (see picture). I already have a pendant necklace (see picture) and my wedding set is from HW. My question is, is HW a good value for the price? I know I can get similar at a lesser price, but I tend to need a name brand behind my high end purchases as I feel that there is more value there. That said, diamonds are different from bags or VCA jewelry (that I also buy). Any advice on getting the earrings from HW or looking elsewhere greatly appreciated.

The heart wants what it wants. So, if you adore HW then that is your answer, and that is where I would full stop.

Of course you can get an unbranded set of earrings, but that doesnt translate into holding aftermarket value

Having said that, if you are concerned with value, as part of due diligence, you could check secondary market prices IDK

I would get the HW earrings. You love it, the diamonds are high quality, and you get the name brand. You already have other HW pieces and can add to your collection. It's a win-win every way I look at it.

I am all about a name brand, especially for all diamond pieces. Why?
Diamonds are everywhere these days. Anyone can buy a no name diamond piece and get a bargain which for me makes the piece nothing special. I do not look for a bargain when buying fine jewelry. And by the way, non-branded diamond pieces are worth nearly nothing on the resale market, not that I ever think of resellling. I buy because I love a piece.

For me, I want a piece of fine jewelry from a luxury brand. I may be the only one who knows it's a branded piece (e.g. HW), but that's all that matters. Jewelry is for me. I know it's a fine quality piece, and it puts an ear-to-ear grin on my face when I wear it.

Without a doubt, I vote HW all the way. Good luck deciding and Happy Birthday! The earrings are lovely!

They are gorgeous, no doubt about that. I feel like for diamonds, it's always a good idea to give your business to a local small jeweler. I still buy the majority of my pieces from a jeweler that my parents starting going to in the 1980s. I do have pieces from VCA, Tiffany, David Yurman, etc., but I always make sure to support the family jeweler. It's good to see my money go locally instead of always to a large corporation.

Thank you. You put my love of name brands into so much perspective. I always say I just don't "respect" non-name brands and wanted to check in here that I wasn't just being stupid about the name. But you put it all so well here! I have decided to buy the HW earrings and will love them forever! Thank you again!!

Such a good point and I do have a jeweler I use for other things like custom pieces. But glad to read your perspective. I have decided to go with HW, but will continue to use my local jeweler for all other pieces. Thank you!
