Hardware stamp question

  1. On some older bags I've seen on eBay, certain Hermes Birkins have a tiny squarish stamp engraved on the hardware right after the Hermes-Paris mark on the right locking strap. Does anyone know why some older bags have these and some don't, and if there's some special meaning attached to it? Apologies if this has already been asked, but I've always been curious about this, and unfortunately I tried seeing if there was one on eBay at the moment, and there isn't, but I'm sure others have seen this.
  2. I think that stamp is the hallmark for gold hardware.
  3. It indicates gold plate. On some of the older bags, the hardware is solid brass.
  4. Thank you! I knew I could count on you guys for an answer; that makes sense.
  5. And where else can you get this information, if not for this forum? :yahoo:

I am very supportive of the good folks here, and intend to stick it out with them.
  6. ^Ditto. It's really been a pleasant place to be to share information and be educated. That said, back to the topic of our beloved Hermes bags!
