Hi!

I’m looking to get my very first piece. I am set on a single pendant for everyday wear I don’t have to baby too much. I am thinking the Vintage Alhambra Onyx or the Guilloche in yellow gold or white gold.

Are there other options I am not considering? I have a lot of YG jewelry in Cartier. Thinking a YG Guilloche would be lovely, but I’m also drawn to the WG. I wear a lot of black and solid colors.

Thanks!

I'd vote for a pave piece, if not, guilloche will be fine as a pendant. Hammered is the most durable and carefree but I don't like how it looks as pendant. Onyx is hardwearing stone but it shows every dirt and finger print so you have to constantly wiping it to keep it looking clean. I noticed the same thing with my carnelian too so if you want to go for a stone, just be mindful if it's between onyx or carnelian.

Hammered (full metal) or pave Alhambra (metal & diamonds) will be the hardiest and hardly show any wear and tear for a long time.

Onyx will show any fingerprints or body oils but should be fine as long as you don’t layer other necklaces with it. Fine scratches on the onyx won’t be too visible from afar because it’s dark. Guilloche will also be fine as long as you don’t layer other necklaces with it but it will show some very light/fine scratches if it touches any zippers, buttons, etc. Because of the sunburst pattern it does have tendency to trap dirt/oils in between the grooves so just keep that mind, it helps to wipe it down thoroughly after a shower and it’ll be shiny again.

Second the opinions above on pave and hammered best fitting the bill of being “hardy”. But of course you have to absolutely love the piece if you are going to wear it everyday. Guilloche will show scratches, etc. but it won‘t break (unlike malachite or other softer stones), so if you don’t mind that the pendant will not look pristine with wear, go for it!

Ah, thanks, everyone! I looked these up, and I’m not a huge fan of pavé or hammered. Guilloche seems to be it — if I don’t layer. Or Onyx with a single diamond, though I haven’t seen that one around very often!

Thanks!

The pendant with a single diamond is the holiday pendant that's made available once a year around October/November, in limited quantity and they rotate the stone/metal combo every year. They've already released one with onyx & RG back in 2016 so doubt they'll do onyx again, at least not any time soon. If you want it you'd have to pay a premium for a pre-love one.

The pendant with Onyx with a single diamond is a holiday pendant from 2016. It is not currently sold unless you get it second hand.
