Hand sanitiser on suede - please help!

Hi all,

This is my first post (although I’m a long-time lurker) and I am really hoping that you can help me...

I am heartbroken - I dropped hand sanitiser on my beloved Longchamp Penelope crossbody bag today. There is now a noticeable dark patch on the suede panel on the very front. The bag is “aubergine” colour (purple).

I would be immensely grateful for any advice. I don’t know what to do!

I’m very sorry this happened. I would try to dab as much as possible off it while it is still wet and then brush it when dry.

Just wanted to post an update in case anybody has the same problem in the future and comes across this thread! I found some tips on Google which suggested using a fine emery board (nail file) to lightly buff the stain until it is less visible. I did this last night and you wouldn’t know that there was a stain unless you look really closely. It’s barely noticeable! I’m so relieved. I only have two special handbags (this Longchamp Penelope and a Mulberry Amberley) so I was absolutely gutted to have damaged one.

Hope this helps somebody else. The trick is to buff the suede very gently - you are aiming to remove the stain without harming the suede underneath.
