Please tell me your honest opinion! I have a .93 very long narrow marquise diamond. It is an "F" color (I think) and an SI2 (I think). Would a halo around a marquise of that size shape look good? Or do you think an east-west reset would look better? TIA!

Although I realize it seems to be more popular, I am not fond of marquise diamonds set E-W, especially with a halo. They remind me of eye jewelry. And with a marquise stone I prefer a larger stone "halo". I am not sure it would technically even be considered a halo, but I like the look of 10 diamonds surrounding the stone instead of the tiny stone halos commonly seen on other diamond shapes.

I would do an east-west halo or bezel -- this is one of my favorite looks ever. Here are some pictures of my favs...

The north-south settings that lisalovesshoes posted are really pretty too!!! I am not a fan of the E-W setting. I am somewhat reminded of an eye with that layout as well.

Yes - not loving my marquise. It resembles the size of the 3rd one pictured in the diamond by laura link. Someday, maybe my DH will take it to have a designed setting created. Until then, I have other rings to wear. I think because it is such a narrow marquise that it is especially hard to find a setting that I would be happy with. Nineteen years ago when I received the diamond, it was the largest one I could do in our budget. I guess back then, the size was more important to me than the shape.

Aaaah I love marquise cut gems, I was trying on sapphires and semi precious stones the other day! Too bad they are not very popular, if they are set in classic aristocratic old European style sets they are amazing. Unfortunately the '80s gave the marquise a bad name... And Sex and the City practically called them an abomination.

I say yes to the halo and side accents, and I will go against the popular demand for east west, I prefer classic north south.
EW makes fingers looks stubby, NS elongates the shape of the hand.
