Guy's Chances of Landing a Birkin Bag

Hi Everyone.

Ok, so I am a guy looking for something nice for his girlfriend's (soon to be fiance) birthday. I do pretty well financially and have saved a pretty penny.

I never heard of birkin bags before (although my girl mentioned it a few times). It wasn't until the other day that I decided to see what the fuss was all about and saw how nice the bag looks.

I read how there is a waiting list but I also read somewhere that there is no longer a waiting list, is this true? Would I be able to waltz into a store and ask for the birkin bag and purchase it? Lastly, what is the a good color for the bag? I'm thinking of getting her either a 30 or 35 (depending on how big they actually are) in a togo or clemence leather (I think that is what it is) burgundy or white color.

If my chances are nill, then I will just get her a Chanel J12 watch. Oh, I live in the Los Angeles Area and my budget is about $15k max.

Please have a read through and I'm sure you will find the information you are looking for. In terms of the Beverly Hills store, my understanding is that there is no waiting list; bags are sold on a first come, first served basis. I think it is similar at South Coast Plaza and San Diego.

Thanks mistikat. There is just so much information but thanks for answering one of my questions regarding the wait. I think I'll just surprise my girlfriend and just take her to the store. That way, she can just get what she wants.
