Guilloche AND VA Diamond Earrings?

So I’ve been on a wait list for the white gold vintage diamond Alhambra earrings for awhile. My VA said it may be a year or two more wait due to supply issues when I saw her last summer.

When I put originally put in my request for the diamond Alhambra it was because I was looking for an everyday pair of earrings that go with everything. I love my white MOP vintage Alhambra and white gold plain Frivole earrings for summer, and my gray magic MOP earrings for winter - but I wanted a white gold pair to wear all year and with everything. Since the only non stone white gold ((was) the diamond version (the hammered or Guilloche only came in YG) it was the logical choice at the time.

However, she messaged me last month saying they got a pair of the white gold Guilloche in the newly launched line. So I went to try them on and they were stunning! Simple but sparkly. So I purchased them and they are wrapped under the Christmas tree. Then, of course, she messaged me today saying they, shockingly, just got a pair of white gold diamond vintage Alhambra. {{ Sigh }}

She said since I haven’t worn the Guilloche earrings I could trade them in for the diamond Alhambra. But I am not sure what to do.

Should I trade the Guilloche earrings for the diamond? Should I keep the Guilloche earrings and just use my other non-VCA diamond earrings I own - and maybe buy a diamond Alhambra necklace later? Or bite the bullet and get both earrings as long as there is a place for each in my life?

I wear my VCA earrings everyday with my wardrobe of jeans, blouse or sweater. I also rotate with my cartier single diamond love hoops.

When I dress up, I layer with either my 10 motif VA WG MOP, WG onyx magic pendant or WG chalcedony magic pendant.

What a difficult choice. For me, I suppose I would go for the WG Guilloche. The Guilloche line is breathtaking and those earrings would certainly pack a punch without being too flashy, dressed up or down. If you love the diamonds and have the means to purchase both, go for it, but I am unsure if I would do the trade. You do you.

Both are great options. If you want to wear causally and will wear them alone then I would stick with guilloche. If you plan to layer with wg vintage necklaces then I would get the diamond as I do not feel the guilloche goes well with other vintage pieces. I personally went with wg hammered for my wg vintage size earring option since to me it is perfect low key casual earrings and will still pair nicely with other vintage necklaces. I felt diamonds were a bit too bling for the look I was going for.

I get the feeling that the VA pave is the one that’s really missing from your collection and the one you wanted the most. The WG guilloche is beautiful in its own right but I feel the pave is more versatile for all looks as it can be dressed up or down. WG guilloche is more casual than the YG for me but it still feels more dressy because of the mirror shine, and because it’s a lot of metal I do feel it is outfit dependent and may not go with everything (maybe not for you though, depends on your personal style).

If you feel you’re going to collect both down the line anyway and will still get the pave one eventually or feel like you’ll still lust after it, I would trade the guilloche for the pave so that you (1) get to keep the current pricing before another inevitable price increase (2) get the piece you really wanted in the first place (3) secure the earrings because the WG VA pave have been difficult to come by stock wise. The WG guilloche is part of the permanent collection so you should have time to purchase it next year if you still love it. I find the WG guilloche earrings to be a nice-to-have piece but the VA pave is a classic timeless piece! Just my opinion though, I hope it helps. Merry Christmas!!

This ^ (if I were facing this issue, I would prefer WG hammered as guilloche is limiting
Pave it you want to wear with other pieces
