AM to be given an award 23 Nov

"WITH exactly one week to go until the 2015 British Fashion Awards, another important recipient has been announced: Gucci's Alessandro Michele. The creative director will be given the International Designer Award at the annual ceremony which will take place next Monday, in recognition of his "remarkable achievements in his role," the British Fashion Council said this morning"

I may well be a voice in the wilderness here but I'm really starting to love the direction that AM is taking Gucci in. Congratulations to him!

Not at all. I'm split in 2, I prefer the shoes now x 100, I can walk in most of them for a start. Dionysus  Blooms and the new Webby aside, the bags are 'trying too hard'. The clothes :nogood:, I love vintage and wear most of the time anyway, most of the stuff even models and celebs can't pull off, true vintage proportions are better. The best thing about AM's direction is no one thinks I look strange anymore, they just think I'm being fashionable :p.

As for this 'award'... Not buying it. Unlike Kering, who clearly did. An annual award given to a designer that hasn't even been in creative control for a year :thinkin:

I love Alessandro Michele's new vision for GUCCI and am VERY excited for it!

Congrats to Alessandro!

Granted being at the helm for less than a year it does seem odd he is going to receive the award. However, I have to admit like Wudge and diamantelux, I really enjoy the new direction that Alessandro is envisioning for Gucci's future. I loved Frida's time as the creative director and all my bags are from her era (who doesn't love the new BTH!) though it is time for a change I think. The Blooms and Dionysus bags are gorgeous. From what I've seen of his clothing collections so far is that everything for women and men is eclectic, geeky, dorky, fun, whimsical and with an attitude of "I just threw a bunch of pieces together and I still look fab no matter what anyone else thinks". :D

PT: from your pics, you always look fashionable!

If the quality is maintained and the aftercare stays I will remain loyal :salute:

The critics have been super kind to Michele. Maybe it's because Gucci is a major advertiser for the media outlets where the critics' opinions are published.

If he won a stylist award, then I would agree. But as for design, I'm not sure. The Gucci pieces appear a lot more polarizing to me now under his direction. I would say that he was successful in making the brand more exciting (although arguably, any new designer could've done that at Gucci).

He's also succeeded in making Gucci look more like a vintage shop rather than a fashion-forward house. It can be argued that old is the new "new", and that his designs are fashion forward, but it's more "recycled" than "fashion-forward" in my opinion.

And I agree that it is a bit soon to give Michele an award.

So long as as 'all of this' is good for Gucci and makes the House grow stronger and protects the jobs of the Italian artisans. My reservations are it becomes another fashion house rather than a leather goods bottega

Eh, I don't think its too early at all. In the short amount of time Michele has been the Creative Director, Gucci has gone from drab to fab. And I don't think any of his fashion is "recycled" at all. Its more like "fake vintage" it may look like its vintage but in reality its not. Its made of the most amazing fabrics and attention to detail. Are you really going to find pieces like that at a vintage shop with the same quality and effect of whats going down the runways now? No, I don't think so.

The old is new again. And I think everything he is doing is relevant with what's going on with contemporary fashion today. And clearly BFA agrees with the award they presented him.

Anyone seen the Gucci Pre-Fall 2016 collection?

Michele definitely has a clear aesthetic, which is akin to (in my opinion) kaleidoscope granny-chicness. But haven't we seen this before from him? Pussy-bow blouses, mismatched colours, exaggerated patterns, floral motifs...

I mean, it will make it easy to match his pieces from previous seasons to this season, but he's beginning to look like he only has one trick up his sleeve.

Here is the opening look:

I know I'm super late chiming in, but I think everyone who has read my posts knows I absolutely LOVED Frida [even more than TF, and certainly more than AM]. I "liked" Gucci under TF but grew very loyal and LOVED Gucci under Frida. So I am very brand loyal to Gucci, and am happy to see anything that propels Gucci forward, but internally I'm like wth, creative director less than a year, and many of his designs leave a lot to be desired. I guess it's really a question of taste. I love timeless, classy, elegant looks [which was Frida all day] while TF was very trendy, edgy, sexy, and AM is very vintage trendy/edgy, pushing the envelope...but not in the direction I like. Frida breathed new life into the classic, timeless Gucci designs that drew me to the brand as a very young girl. All the things that made me think of class and grace, that I came to associate with Gucci.

I am mostly a handbag and sunnies girl when it comes to Gucci, and there are only a handful of handbags I have considered buying, but have not yet pulled the trigger on any. None of them speak to me the way Frida's bags did. They are "really like" at first site, while Frida's were LOVE!!!
