Hi everyone,

I'm not very knowledgable on Gucci and would just like to find out more about Gucci watches in particular. Are they reliable and reputable? How do they wear in the longer run? Are they just fashion watches or are they bona fide timepieces? Any particular recommendations? I was looking at the Pantheon and G Round collections.

Your comments and advice would be much appreciated! :smile1:

I love Gucci and although I have a Señora (which is more like jewellery) and I like lots of their designs. I would rather have time pieces like Baume & Mercier, a vintage Omega or Rolex etc.

I think I might be being a little hard on Gucci because their reputation is good for watches and you have the comfort of the after -care service too.

to me, watches from fashion houses: e.g. vuitton, gucci, hermes; will always be an accessory to me: i.e. fashion watch. If I were to choose to spend either on a Gucci watch or Patek Philippe for example, I would definitely go for the Patek Philippe. Regardless of the price, I think it all depends on what kind of watch you want.

My parents bought me a Gucci watch for my 16th bday - it was the gold bracelet watch with the interchangeable bezels. I loved that watch. Actually, I still have it to this day (18 years later) and it still works just fine. All I've ever had to do is change the battery when it died. DH got me a Gucci watch for our anniversary last year. But I agree that they are more fashion pieces.

I'm not a big watch person though - I own a Coach watch with interchangeable bezels and DH and I have matching Movados. That's pretty much it.

I have at least 5 gucci watches.. and I love them.. other than my DH has one that has a minor mishap.. otherwise.. they are working fine!! I have no issues with the watch itself..

I have the Senora and love it. I also have the 1500 which I have needed to replace the battery on a couple of times. The jeweller always has to send it away and the quotes come back way too high - £150 last time to clean and change the battery. I baby my watches and can't help wondering whether the charges are somewhat inflated given that Gucci insist on having the watch returned to them for battery swap out.

However compared to my husbands Breitling watch the battery repair prices are reasonable!!!!!

My dad was mad as hell when he had his rolex sent in to clean up a couple of damaged parts inside his watch - the bill came out to $1500. He didn't think the price would be that high.

I love the look of gucci watches but don't have any - then again, I'm not a huge watch person. I just wear one because of work and whenever I remember. My sister has one gucci watch from a couple of years ago and she doesn't have any problems with it.

I still own and use my first Gucci watches, which were purchased about 16 - 18 years ago. I've never had a problem with any of my Gucci watches other than to have the batteries replaced. I just got back from a cruise to the Western Caribbean and was really looking forward to picking up another Gucci watch as a souvenir. Sadly, the Gucci prices on Grand Cayman weren't really that great so I opted to just purchase a watch off BlueFly during one of their next great sales event.

I know what you mean about the Breitling. I got hubby one for our anniversary, so luckily we don't have to worry about the service for a year or two, but I'm not looking forward to that service fee. Of course, I'm not looking forward to the service fee on my Tag Heuer either.

I'd like to have a Gucci watch at some point just to have one for my collection, but I wouldn't use it as my everyday watch. The jewelry store I shop at here in town carries Gucci watches and has had some really nice sales on their Gucci watches.

10 years later...

My mom gave me a Gucci watch in the mid-80s. I was too young to appreciate it as particularly special in any way; it was just a watch. Because of cell phones, I stopped wearing it about 20 years ago. The time that I did use it, I treated it as casually as a Swatch Watch. I worked outside and wore it daily. It never occurred to me to use it any other way. I just wanted to know the time. Then cell phones came and it went into retirement.

For sentimental reasons, I decided to excavate it from my jewelry box; it appeared to have stopped keeping time long ago.

This morning, I took it to a watch shop. Fifteen dollars, 10 minutes, and one battery later, she came right back to life!

Say what you will about Gucci watch quality (it seems some people think they are good and others think they are overpriced and overhyped). I still know little about watches, but I know that this little beauty works perfectly after having lived a hard life and then tossed aside for a couple of decades.

So pleased, good to hear.

I saw a lady come in to G CS to pick up her 20 y I watch after she'd brought it in for a new strap and she seemed more than happy.
