Gucci Sylvie - is it worth it to buy?

Hi everyone im new here and i decided to join just for this reason - cant decide if i should get the Gucci Sylvie.

Its a beautiful bag - but do you think it will still usable in about 2-3 years? I wouldnt want to spend on something thatll be dated so soon. Or what do you HONESTLY think about the style? Ive been watching YT reviews and it has been on the dont-buy list for some.

Appreciate all your opinions and I will respect them all!

It's a reissue of a vintage bag but the hardware has to speak to you.

I actually avoid YT vids when buying a new bag (or looking at RTW collections). Most talk out their a$$es.

Ohhh thanks!!!! Ugh i actually super love it but i wanted to hear about upkeep/hows usage since i cant seem to find any reviews. The YT reviews are so vague. Also wouldnt want to shell out a big amount of money without knowing first from other people if its any good.

@jeshiamia and @papertiger hello!!! So this is an interesting question. PT is correct this is a reissue of a vintage bag. So in my case I have never thought about the “trend” of this particular purse. I was taken in by it’s history.

Secondly, I agree with PT that one has to simply unapologetically love the hardware. I absolutely am enamored with the hardware and the purse. When the reissue came out I learned everything (with the help of PT) about the original version.

My point is if you have doubt don’t get it. I think the Sylvie really speaks to some but not all. It’s not as popular as some of the other lines (Dionysus, Marmont, etc) and if that is important to you than you may not want to put money into the Sylvie. However, if you are less inclined to follow trends And you love this hardware then you will be content with your Sylvie.

Can anyone speak to how durable or fragile the leather is? I’m considering the large sylvie top handle bag. I want it for an everyday bag. I can’t seem to find reviews of it. Thank you!

I think it has a timeless appeal, but personally I gave it a miss, I know that while I like the chunky hardware for the moment, I would get tired of it pretty quick and the style with the colours, it just ties you too much, what for me was the biggest deal breaker was the gold tone hardware, I don't wear gold. That is not to say it isn't a nice bag, but a bag I would end up not using much, I decided to pass. It totally depends on how much use YOU would get out of it, picture yourself with the bag and what you would wear with it, in the past I haven't done that and ended with bags I then never used and felt a bit guilty about buying. I actually went to the store 3 times, because I wasn't sure, the SA was great and went "I don't think this is for you, people really fall in love with the bag or they don't and from what you usually get, I think you won't be very happy!" I think she was totally right, however your style might be totally different and it could be the bag for you.

The mini one has a longer shoulder strap in golden metal (so cute) while the small one has a short shoulder strap and I wish it was longer. However, the mini size seems too mini ? I have the small and its pretty small. It fits a short wallet, 2 phone and keys so I wouldnt go for the mini. I think I saw Gucci selling a separate crossbody strap a while back ago. Not sure if they still do. I use the web ribbon to sling in on my shoulders and like the shorter option of doubing up the length or the just slinging it with the single ribbon so its slightly longer.
