Hi all, I am looking to purchase a new belt and my two top contenders are Gucci’s GG belt or Hermés classic H 32mm belt. Which would you recommend and why? I find that I am swaying towards the Hermés just because it is more unique and the Gucci belt has many fakes. What do you think?

Seeing as you’re in the G forum I’d bet many will say get the G belt. I’ll be the first.
There are also many, many fakes of the Hermès belt.
Have you been to the H store? They have some awesome alternative designs to the classic H buckle.
Hi, there are a lot of Hermes fakes as well... if there is a market for it... they will fake it. I suggest you go for the Gucci running GG belt first because of the price point and because I think you are leaning towards the Gucci. Go to the Gucci boutique, so this way you are guaranteed authenticity and your Sales Associate at Gucci will size you and get you the right belt... then work your way up to the Hermes, but ONLY get it at an Hermes Boutique.

I have both brands (Gucci 9 Hermes 3). I know, it sounds like a football score.
Gucci's belts are more than half the price of H's (if you mean the belt kits) although you get 2 H belts for the price of 1 because it's reversible. Having said this Gucci usually do a reversible belt too (nearly always black/brown, I still have my dad's bought in 1987! I replaced the strap so I can wear the buckle).
You don't have to by the GG Running (Marmont) or the Constance ('H') buckles. Both brands have lots of belts that have no logos and are totally discrete.
Hermes Constance buckle belt kits are the No.1 faked item. You must go to the store and buy one from H direct. Ring and check they have your size/colour or order from the website directly (hermes.com).
Same with Gucci, ring ahead to make sure they have your size or check online.
Only H do clic and collect, Gucci only send to your address.

I have one Hermès belt and two Gucci belts. Judging the quality, I have to say Gucci wins. The leather is thicker and sturdier. H belt feels flimsy to me and after sometime, the holes are loose. Sometimes I found my H belt snapped open. This never happens to my Gucci belt. Gucci just came out with the classic Gucci logo with horsebits, I chose this over the Marmont belt.
