Has anyone had an issue with their smooth leather Jackie (not grained leather) smelling? I received one and it just smells horrible. I was told this is normal and to just let it air out for a few days. Still smelled after to the point where I left it in my car and my whole car smelled afterwards. I exchanged for another one which still smells but not as potent. For those who have it, does it ever go away?

Also, the underneath of the strap showed the “wrinkles” after one or two uses. Worried this means it’s going to quickly start peeling. Love that bag and want to keep if the smell will go away and if the strap won’t peel, so curious to hear other’s experience.

I’ve owned a Jackie (small) for almost 1 year and have not had that experience at all. My bag has never had an odor, and the strap appears to be like new. If you’re concerned about the strap quality I would definitely recommend reaching out to your SA to ask to exchange again.

The odour sounds like it's from the finishing processing, so long as it's not the leather itself. Wear and air should be fine.

The strap sounds normal. On the shoulder the top will be stretching and the underneath retracting, it should get softer and more pliable over time. Leather is a natural material so will always show signs of wear, wear is good (break is not) these straps are built to last. If the strap peels they'll replace it as the bag's under warrantee (how long should be in your paperwork). The only strap I had repaired (2017) was my mothers from the 1990s, regularly worn (over bare shoulders too - think of all that moisturiser and skin oil/acid in the sunshine) by her and by me.

So the underneath of your strap shows no wear?

How do I know the smell is from the finishing versus the leather itself though? I asked online help too and they said all the stores just received a brand new batch of Jackies so I’m a bit worried that this was a batch issue and exchanging it again won’t help

Hello, I got a small Jackie 1961 in black (the hard and shiny leather version) from my trip to Paris last week, and I'm having the same 'wrinkled leather' issue on the under side of the strap as well. The piping of the strap showed signs of wear and tear that I'm not even sure how Gucci could sell that. It was my fault for not checking the bag thoroughly before leaving the boutique because I had to rush for my flight. I contacted Gucci boutique in my country but the replacement Jackie that the staff offered showed the same defect too. I'm not sure if I should top up for the Jackie with grained leather version or opt for other Gucci designs like the Horsebit 1955...

Hi! Sorry to hear you’re having the same issue. So I actually exchanged mine again, and the SA ordered me a brand new one from the warehouse. He did say the strong smell and wrinkling on my previous one was definitely not normal, and they packaged the one I brought back to send to the company to deal with.

My new one has a little bit of wrinkling under the crossbody strap, but it doesn’t concern me as much bc it’s much less than the one on the picture I posted above and I do just love the bag. I figure I can have them repair or replace the crossbody strap if it ever becomes an issue, but I don’t really see that happening.

I also have this in grained lol. I love them both but the black smooth leather is my favorite. It just looks so sleek, the grained is much more casual. I’d recommend going into your local store and asking them to order you a brand new one. You def want one without defects and it is just such a lovely bag that I would still recommend it over others. Let me know if you have anymore questions

It's nice to know that your SA ordered a new Jackie for you. I tried to negotiate with my SA about the possibility of obtaining a fresh stock for the shiny black leather Jackie but she tried to convince me to get the other colors (which were display pieces that were not in the best condition or grained red/green which isn't what I am looking for). I am pretty stressed out because the SA kept emphasizing that Gucci can make only a one-time exchange and since I got my bag from an overseas duty free Gucci boutique (CDG Airport), they are doing me a favor by making an exception and allowing me to do this exchange :/. Honestly, this is my first bag purchase at Gucci and I am not sure what to expect. I would think that the international exchange policy should be straightforward and fuss-free?

Hm I could see there being complications since you purchased from a duty free Gucci and are exchange at one that is not duty free (ie you would have paid more). What does your receipt say about returns?
