Gucci's AW18/19 show was today and I'm relieved as I was not a fan of the SS18 'Elton John' show . For a while, apart from some rare pieces (mostly jewellery and shoes) I pretty much felt Gucci was leaving me behind. The whole slogan thing felt really naff for me and it seemed everything had a patch. This AW18 show is pretty much what I wear anyway (minus carrying my own replica head or pet dragon - I have enough to carry).

The set reminded me of the now abandoned Beelitz hospital in former East Germany (DDR) that was last abandoned by the Russian military in the late 1980s. I also felt the Pussy Riot trial raked over (in a good way) and other subtle and not so subtle Russian, Soviet and other exotic/historical influences.

Some really lovely, wearable bags (without patches) and some fantastic hats and other accessories. I'd love that check cape-jacket below and the GG-lace is calling me, some seriously beautiful pieces.

Have you seen the show? Please let me know what you thought?

Why do I feel like crying looking at these photos? Well, it certainly made me feel something, just not something good. PT, I absolutely respect your taste and knowledge about so many artistic and cultural subjects so maybe I am missing something, but the only thing I remotely liked was AWs outfit (in the background).

Just awful, but this is exactly what I was expecting. Just think of Lady Gaga and that dark phase when she would always come up with something even more shocking than the last thing until she just couldn't shock anyone anymore since we had just seen it all. Then she just went back to a normal human being. Same goes for Alessandro Michele (I hope, however, that he makes Gucci go back to a normal, actually wearable brand in the real world.)

I did see some really nice horsebit mules that I'm definitely buying, but they're not Alessandro at all. There was also a really nice flora-ish coat that I'm probably not buying and something else from the RTW, but I don't remember what it was.

I also forgot to mention and this is most likely not the place, but I'll let it out anyway: isn't anyone going to say anything about the cultural appropriation and the stereotypes on the runway? Not that I even care on the first place, even when I myself belong to one of the cultures appropriated there. They can wear whatever the hell they want, but, come on, Alessandro Michele puts white models with unibrows wearing turbans and babushka clothing and nobody says a thing (I know babushkas are white, but I wanted to mention them for the unibrow stereotype), but Marc Jacobs puts white and even mixed models wearing locks and everybody jumps.

What I want to say is that people are quite selective with who and how they will witch hunt, and I find that quite ridiculous. I just think it's quite pathetic that I'm even talking about this new construct people have made. Again, I know this is not the place, so feel free to delete if you please.

Loved it!
The mise en place was over the top (and there is nothing wrong with that in my book) and the severed heads beyond creepy. But lots of wearable stuff. Love everything flora. Loved the stripes and the velvet and the Art Deco vibe. Not a fan of the NY beanies and the GG logos... but I guess it keeps part of the constituency happy...

1 and 4 are actually some of the pieces that I liked! 4 is the flora coat that I mentioned on my first post.

I actually really liked the severed heads and the girl with the third eye. I have a really quirky style myself, but if I wore any of these things where I live or even in my professional environment, I would plain out be made fun of.

Did not appreciate severed heads at all
Patients walking through a hospital

Ha ha you both made me literally laugh out loud

AM alluded to we are creators of our own monsters, postmodern construct of the self and architects of identity and design blah blah. Actually, I translated it and made it sound better than what he actually said, he was a lot more vague than Vogue.

If you can deconstruct, there was a lot of very wearable pieces for the season. And some very nice bags which is what I'm getting excited about.

I think this happens every season with AM's Gucci, though. There are always pieces that you can wear with something neutral to tone down the whole look overall, but they just present them way over the top during the runway and on their lookbooks.

I liked the python bags. They reminded me of Balenciaga's Papier totes in python that I never bought out of stupidity. The thing is I need something equally quirky and timeless, which sounds kind of impossible, but is actually completely possible. I saw horsebits and that makes me faithful for the next things to come.

By the way, I swear I am not Frida Giannini spreading all this hate on the new Gucci.

It's fine to talk about it here because it's about the styling of the show. I also agree with may points you've made.

 we would all be very honoured if you were and I don't read any of what you say as "hate".
