My wedding band is a WG guard style that fits around my RG engagement ring. I LOVE the look of the two rings together and was told by a jeweler that the guard is actually protective of the raised setting on my e-ring (after I had to have it fixed because the setting was bent after me wearing the ring by itself for two years). Lately though I have been wondering about the prongs on the e-ring band being damaged by rubbing against the inside of the guard bands. The e-ring sits lower than the band so there is not really prong-on-prong rubbing, but I still worry that they will get worn down. The guard fits pretty snug around the e-ring but it still shifts a little bit sometimes and I have to readjust it every once in a while and when I do I feel like I have to be damaging the prongs.

Does anyone else wear a guard style band? Do you wear it pretty snug around the e-ring or is it looser? Does it shift around at all and do you worry about the prongs? Am I just being paranoid and need to accept that some day the prongs will wear down regardless and just enjoy my beautiful rings?

I bought two 1 mm RG spacers to try to add some cushion for the prongs but it didn't quite fit and ended up looking funny so I nixed that idea. I don't want to have them soldered because they are from two different places with two different warranties, and because I see that being a problem if I ever needed to have the WG ring re-dipped.

You don’t really have to worry about prong on prong rubbing but if there are diamonds rubbing on the metal prongs that is a real problem and you may need to consider different settings or spacers. Diamonds will absolutely damage the metal.
