Hi All! I’ve been eyeing the grey MOP vintage Alhambra necklace but have been hesitant to purchase it based on what how others say that MOP is very delicate, shrinks and dulls over time.

For those of you who own the grey MOP necklace, how has it held up over time? I wouldn’t shower with it but I heard that it could still dull/turn matte over time from wearing and touching your skin. Also, is it true the grey MOP gets dull faster than the white MOP? Thanks!

You probably won't get a straight answer for this because there are so many variables. On top of being in contact with water, it varies by the beauty products you use and the pH of your skin, which can cause the MOP to deteriorate quicker than it does on others, and how OCD you are. I have a friend whose MOP shrunk after wearing it nonstop for a little over a year, whilst some people claimed that their MOP looking as good as new after several years of owning it. GMOP doesn't necessarily become dull faster than MOP, but since it's darker, the dullness tend to look much more obvious, it's like grimes & dirt on dark color car vs. light color car.

At the end of the day, if you truly love it then go for it. You can always replace the GMOP down the road when it becomes dull or scratched up.

Thanks for the input! Do you know approximately how much costs to replace the GMOP?

I can only compare to the white MOP, not the gray MOP, but I have had my white MOP pendant since 2018 and wear it regularly. While I do wear it fairly often, I *don't* wear it with lotion on the area where the pendant will sit, nor do I get it wet or shower with it. (That is easy for me since I don't wear any jewelry in the pool, shower, beach, at the gym, etc. anyway) It still looks like new 6 years later!

I have never had any issues with my GMOP pieces however, I never wear consistently nor get wet.
Thanks! How long have you had it and do you wipe/clean it with anything after wearing? I saw a review where the backside of the pendant that touches the skin got dull over time but the front stayed nice and shiny (for that particular owner).

I’ve had few pieces for at least 2/3 years and so far no issues. I don’t wipe after every use. If I see fingerprints I will use cloth to wipe off.

This is a silly question but is there a front side and back side of the Alhambra necklace? It looks like it can be worn with either side facing out and I heard some people alternate which side they wear but some say there is definitely a front side of the necklace?

The prongs/beads on the front side are rounder and stick up more than the back side that look more elongated and pushed down to the stone. It's more obvious in the 5 motif than the pendants though so I guess technically you can wear either sides as I doubt people would notice.
