Some of you might remember my thread from last week: http://forum.purseblog.com/the-jewelry-box/would-you-buy-1-12-ct-l-m-585891.html

My friend broke off her engagement and was selling her ring. I ended up buying it yesterday for much less than what she originally wanted (which was $3,000) after she saw that no one wanted to give her much for it.

I took it to a close friend of the family who owns a jewelry store (not the one where she got it from originally) and he looked at it. He put the size at 1.24 carats, and the color at K/-leaning more towards L. :yahoo:

The pictures show some yellow, but IRL it just has a beautiful warmth to it!

DH is happy with it and I promised him I wouldn't bug him for an upgrade for about 5 years!

Here are some pics:

And here it with my original e-ring which is an H.

So now the question is: what should I do with it?! :graucho:

Here are some options, but please feel free to throw out some more!

1. It needs to re-sized if I plan to wear it in that setting. So I could re-size it and just wear it as a solitaire for the time being.

2. I could ask my jeweler if that stone could be put in my original setting and have my original stone taken out and made into a pendant.

3. I could look for a new setting for it. If I do that, should I keep it more plain and modern since my original setting is antique, or go that route again?

4. Or should I make this stone into a pendant?

Any other ideas?
I would LOVE to be able to buy a matching stone for it and make them into a gorgeous pair of studs, but that's not feasible right now...all other ideas are welcome and much appreciated!

Thanks!

^That was my pinky  My ring finger is about a 6-6.5. It looks big on my ring finger as well, though, because I have short fingers. Most of the 'padding' is on the bottom of my ring finger, and not the sides...I lucked out!

Your new stone is gorgeous. Incredible that you have been able to such an enormous stone at such a good price. You are helping your friend out too.

I love this simple setting; a diamond of this size doesn't need much around it. But do you normally like modern settings (since you choose an antique setting for your first e-ring). And will it be painful for your friend if she sees 'her' ring all the time'. My own stone (old European cut) was already set in a very simple ring: the band is plain white gold but the 'setting' around the stone is beautifully crafted.

Well, I would do this:
- make your current ring into a pendant
- design a new ring for your new stone: plain band and a (modern) crafted setting

Have fun making your decision!

LOL.... oh, that's why. My finger is a 6-6.5 and my engagement ring is a 1.45, but your diamond looks just as big... I have long fingers, with the padding on the bottom too...LOL

I like the setting it's in now. I would just resize it and wear it... if you don't mind wearing your friend's setting. Match it up with an awesome diamond band, and your set.

Wear it in good health...! Btw..how much did you get it for?

I paid $2,000 for it.

Another option would be to keep my original e-ring and wear it as a right-hand ring. But then I need to think about what to do with the setting that the solitaire is in.

So many decisions!

Oh gosh, what to do with the stone is such a personal decision. But if it were me :smile1:, I would turn it into a solitaire necklace! It's something that I could wear and enjoy every day...and who doesn't like sparkle right at the base of the throat??

It is a very pretty stone! I love warm stones. If you went with it as a right hand ring, I think I'd do a different setting. Why not see about putting it into your current ring- they will probably have to do something with the prongs though w/ the size difference. I'd put your original stone into a pendant- a traditional 4 prong or bezel.

I agree! It would be nice to keep it in the same setting so you keep the same sentimental feeling to the ring, just with a bit more bling and you get to keep the original diamond for sentimental value around your neck.

Btw- what an amazing deal on the ring!
