I really enjoyed this in-depth piece that Amanda put together, and it's chock full of examples to back it up.

She took a methodological approach, which I love, and showed us ten (!) bags to seal the deal.

The biggest obstacle to getting results was figuring out how to compare the bags in a fair way. For accuracy's sake, I did ten head-to-head comparisons of bags from the same designers' men's and women's lines that were as similar as possible in leather, shape and finish. Because men's bags are usually larger, I broke it down even further by calculating the price per cubic inch of each bag. That way, we'd know how much designers were asking per unit of bag real estate, no matter how much or how little the particular consumer chose to buy. For the best results, I used head-to-head comparisons of bags from the same retailers whenever possible, to help ensure that each bag was measured the same way.

We have all heard of the Pink Tax, but what do you all think now that you see it in some of our favorite brands?

I know I will be swinging through the men's department, particularly when looking for something in a neutral....:thinkin:

Consider this if you will. Want to see how it fits into the picture?

I have noticed too. Not only for bags....
I think that men go shopping when they NEED something, whereas for us ladies shopping is a hobby....
So when they decide to go to the stores, they have some prices in mind and don't spend more than what they intented to.
But.......Things are changing ....Young men tend to be more interested in fashion than their fathers and in a few years'time the prices will be the same for both men and women.

I never saw the Valentino Men's backpack and also the Givenchy Duffle for men.. as a dude.. It looks pretty good to me :graucho: add that to my Christmas wish list... Thanks ******** for enabling and this cost per cubic inch thing adds yet another excuse to shop ;)

It was a great post Amanda did, and my first Balenciaga years ago was the men's version pictured here - because I didn't like the tassels and extraneous accoutrements on the women's version. And, at the time, it was almost if not half the price of the women's version. I've subsequently bought a First, but have used the Day messenger more, yet the Day has held up and aged much better. Many of the men's versions are just cleaner, sleeker, simpler versions of great bags - which is about as good as it gets.
