My brother just bought an engagement ring for his girlfriend and I'm wondering if he got a good price?

It's a GIA stone, 1.13 carats, D color, VS2 clarity. Very Good cut, Good polish/symmetry. Medium Blue Fluorescence.

The stone is very nice in real life. Very clean under a loupe.

He paid $7300 for the stone and the jeweler threw in a free platinum setting. The setting was around 7 grams with .05 carats of tiny diamonds. He also offered to size the ring for free (it needs to be sized up a size or two). The jeweler has an upgrade policy to take the stone back for what he paid if he spends double.

Is this a good price?

With that kind of rare color and clarity over 1 carat, it sounds good to me.

I looked at a very pretty 1.50ct G color I clarity recently and it was approximately the same price.

I agree w/ moto, the good symmetry and polish kept it from being a better deal IMO.
If it were excellent/ideal cut and had better symmetry/polish it'd be fantastic at that color/clarity. I think his deal is fair.

So $7300 for a 1.13 D, VS2 diamond set in a 7 gram platinum setting with diamonds was a fair deal? The price included the setting and sizing up a ring size. It wasn't just for the diamond.
