Gold vs. Silver hardware experiences

Would silver or gold hardware be more likely to tarnish? Or lose its shine and fade in color?

This is not about YSL in specific but in my experience, gold hardware doesn‘t hold up as well as silver does. Usually it‘s because the gold colour is just painted on so when it rubs off, the silver metal underneath comes through. So I find that with silver it‘s not noticeable but looks weird when the gold hardware suddenly has silver spots
