Gold prices

Hi everyone!

I bought a present for my boyfriend today but didnt quite do enough research or comparing before hand. I paid AU$950 for a 18k white gold curb chain (20" and roughly 5.2g) from the local jeweller. I have previously been shopping in the designer jewellery stores like Tiffany where I got used to designer price tag so the price at the jeweller seems fair. Now I am having second thoughts..can anyone tell me if this is a decent price?

I'm also thinking of getting myself a 18k rose gold bangle made (4mm thick ~15g), the same jeweller told me his thinks it will cost around 2000. Is this reasonable too?

I'd love to hear from your advice! Thanks heaps in advance :smile1:

I think the bottom line is that gold has gone up and the weight and carat value of the gold will determine the price. If the bracelet is heavy, then it might cost that much.

I think that's a fair price for the bangle. Here's a comparable--this seller has solid bangles from 2mm to 4mm, in karats from 10k to 24k (not affiliated with--just on my wish list!)

Gold went up up up, but has fallen by 35-40%; most sellers haven't reduced prices from that $1,900ish/oz high, b/c a) they have inventory bought at the high price & b)they'll charge whatever they can get away with! But 2k for *solid* 4mm sounds *very* reasonable.

The price for that white gold curb chain is very expensive. You are paying approximately $165.00 (US) per gram. I would not pay that much, but I'm not sure how the jewelry is priced in Australia.

Actually gold is doing extremely badly and is not likely to recover for a long time. The price you paid is high but it also depends on many other factors like workmanship, whether handmade, etc. So if these are nice handmade pieces then it may not be as much. You do pay a lot more for certain brands but you can often tell the difference in workmanship. Just a couple of factors that play a role here.
