Gold letters monogram - can it be changed?

I’ve a vintage 1969 Rouge H box Kelly that has letter monogram on the front flap - obviously not mine.
I wonder if H could eventually change the letters to match my initial.
I know that taking them away and leaving no monogram would mean having holes visible in the leather, and I certa don’t want it.

I have someone else's initials on H croc. I actually feel it's an honour to carry their initials.

As you say, they could take them off but they couldn't replace as this type of monogram is long gone. They could perhaps do their usual monogram in stamped gold lettering. You'd see the holes, but the impact may either be magnified because gold is shiny and highlight the holes of it would lead the eye away. Either just removing them or stamping over would be a risk.

Maybe they could cover the gold up with tonal color stamp so it won't be so obvious. I highly doubt they would cut flap leather, even if you requested that. That sounds destructive. I think you should inquire with a craftsman.

They are like little spiked letter-shape studs. No cutting would be necessary.

No, not at all, fair comment. Just explaining.

It would be like painting over permabrass hardware only in miniature. They prob couldn't take them out to put them back so would have to mask the background leather someway..

To be painted. they'd first also have to sand down the brass (so again it mean removing and putting back) the specialist paint would hopefully then stick, but in this case they'd also have to match paint from RH 1951 and know it would dry to that certain colour before it dries.

Ohhhhh ok. I understand now. I had no clue what you meant but this makes sense. Much more complex than I thought as the craftsman cant just stamp over the existing stamp with a red color to make it blend. Thanks for explaining :flowers:

Personally, I'd leave the initials & enjoy the fantasy as to who the initials might have belonged to..
I also love that your bag is the color Rouge & that it is in box with a wonderful patina
I have several vintage VCA 18kt & wood bangles that have 4 gold plaques on each bangle
all engraved with wonderful names of what could be a family.. I actually receive many compliments
when I wear them so I would keep those initials as is & let my imagination run wild as to who they
might have belonged to..
