Wondered how long it took for peoples gold hardwear to start showing the silver underneath?
And what the wear and tear looks like on gold hardwear after 2-3 years of use. (Please state roughly how often you use the bag) any pics would be really appreciated

Also if anyone knows, how much would it cost for chanel to change hardwear after the warranty ends? thanks!

Hi OP. In my experience I only had issue with gold HW once when one of my classic flaps started to tarnish after about one year. My other gold HW bags have no issues and I had them for many years.

This is good to hear, I’ve seen a few people on you tube complaining recently about gold hardwear tarnishing quickly or turning silver from the plate on the back of the Cc hitting it when closing.
I dont mind scratches but id be upset if the turnlock turns silver on the front or brown!

I did not want it repaired. I have many other bags without any issues and I just sold the bag. I am more of a silver HW person to start with and I don’t recall hearing about many problems with silver HW. I never had any issues with any of my silver or ruthenium HW items. Would you consider silver HW?

I’ve not heard of many issues with silver hardware and i have definitely considered it for that reason. I prefer silver on coloured bags but for black my preference is gold so it just depends on the bag colour and style x

I try to put my bags in cycle to avoid the wear and tear, and keep them in the dust bags when not in use. Haven’t had any issues with the gold HW wearing.

Hhhmmm Unfortunately I don’t think there is a reliable way to know how the HW will ware. I think you should go for what you really want and just enjoy your bag. Also it may make sense to voice the concern to the SA and make sure you are aware of all of the options available to you in case there is something to happen.

I think this is more of an issue on vintage bags since I imagine the 24k plating to be very soft. My gold hw have been fine so far.
I‘ve had tarnishing on bags from other designers and that is usually fairly easy to clean. If it actually wears away I‘m sure it can be replaced :)

My 24k is in pristine condition. They used to use thick, solid gold plating. My giant clasp has scratches and it almost looks like 24k all the way through.

I think tarnishing has been more of an issue within the past several years, maybe I’m wrong.
