Hey Bag lovers,

my very VERY nice boss is taking me to NY (from the middle east) as a xmas present for 4 days. i have NEVER been to the states. i wanted to know where do i go and shop? and are there any specific bag places i need to go? ( i heard there is a discount store there that sells last season stuff for cheap)
Anything would be helpful

I'm sure there are several discount stores. Do research. I heard of one store in Lower Manhattan right across from Ground Zero-don't know the name. But definitely check out Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue. Also how can you miss out on Saks, Macys, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, and Henri Bendel? All large department stores. Also, you're going to be in NYC and they always have sample sales.

You might also want to check out Jeffrey's in the meatpacking district for designer names for less. Have fun in NY and bring a warm coat. It's freezing here..burrrr!:wacko:

^^ Jeffrey ain't no discount store! Its got a great selection but its not the place to go for deals. Century 21 has discounted stuff but its previous seasons.

duty free apparel also sells discount bags.......it looks kinda ratty but gets really good reviews for carrying discount fendi, balenciaga, prada, marc jacobs, etc..........shop on madison avenue (and fifth avenue of course)......and shop for the ctest hair accessories ever at henri bendel's......

thanx guys you have no idea how helpful this has been. never been to the US so very excited.. how cold is cold? i just bought one big jackety thing. also was told not to take any of my designer bags as will most defiantly get mugged???!!!?? please tell me they are just being sterotypical of NY.??

I wouldn't worry about that at all -- unless you are out late in a kind of remote area (so use your judgement). I would say in most places in manhattan you would more likely be run over by a bus than mugged :biggrin:

I live in New York. You can also add Balenciaga to your list of stores to visit. They are located at: 542 West 22nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues) Their telephone number is: (212) 206-0872. Also, Saks is 611 Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman is 754 Fifth Avenue, Chanel is at 15 East 57th Street or 737 Madison Avenue or 139 Spring Street. You can definitely wear your designer bags without worrying. NYC is a very friendly city. Just like anywhere else there are "bad" neighborhoods that you should avoid. Other than that you'll be fine. Have a grrrrrrrrreat time in our city! Let us know how you made out!

I am a native New Yorker too. I would hit the Meatpacking district - tons of awesome stores like Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Scoop, etc. 14th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. Balenciaga is within walking distance on 22nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. You can also hit Barney's SoHo.

I would definitely go to Bergdorf Goodman and walk on 57th to hit Chanel, YSL, Dior, Burberry, Prada, Coach, etc. Madison has Tod's and Barney's flagship on 61st. THen walk up Madison for Carolina Herrera, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Michael Kors - all of the really upscale boutiques.

For deals, go to Century 21 in Tribeca. They are hit or miss but worth checking out. My favorite boutique is Intermix; they have one on Madison in the 70s, one in SoHo, one on the Upper West Side...Also, I would check out 5th Avenue around 18th Street; there are a bunch of good stores there too. For good vintage clothes, go to Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg, Bklyn; there is also What Goes Around Comes Around in SoHo, and Famly Jewels on 23rd Street. For shoes, there is Jimmy Choo on Madison and 63rd (I think). Manolo Blahnik is on 54th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. Chuckies (there are a couple, I forget where) has some nice shoes too.

Have an awesome time - New York is the greatest city in the US, in my opinion!

Thanks guys. i leave this evening - wish me luck (15hour flight) i will definatly let you know how i get on.

Am stayin in chambers hotel??? been told its on 5th. i hope i get deals ( looking for clothing shoes etc- on sale) will take pics.
