I have my first Glove tanned leather items now the wristlet less concerned about the bag? yeah, how is it in the winter? i mean full on dragging for months kind, mainly i am worried about salt, while i don't set them on the floor the cars get covered in it and it seems no matter how hard you try, salt gets onto the bags...

I have only used Patent and Pebbled leathers for winter time?

What leather is the Carly bag from way back made from? Is that glove tanned? I ask because I have the large one in black and I use it often when I go back East in the Winter time. That thing is a work horse, and I have never had any issues with it in snow, ice, etc.

Oh gosh, sorry no clue. I'll google it and see if can tell lol

You could condition it with Obenaufs Heavy Duty LP. It is supposed to make leather water resistant. It makes Coach leather even nicer.

Hmm.. okay another i will have to look up. It does concern me, because it's a very dirty time in this country and impossible to keep things tidy. Thank for the suggestion.

Okay i see a zillion Carley bags, seem there maybe one possibly made of it, for example many of the duffles are made of it, Peanuts line was full of it and the new Ace satchel is done in it too.

It's structured yet flexible. Should wear like iron but salt is asking a lot of any bag but unavoidable in winter.

The great thing about the unlined bags is that they can be washed. I've never done it with a reissue but I don't see why they wouldn't do as well as vintage bags. Check out the rehab club thread.

I have used kiwi mink oil in the past for glove tanned leather, and it has done a great job of waterproofing my bags. It can be found in the shoe departmant. It's in a tin that looks like the tins that have car wax in them. It's solid kind of like car wax.

I like mink oil too. It's inexpensive and works well.

I love the cat in your avatar!

Leather CPR works good on salt stains/crusting; I used it on a grey cow leather MbMJ. If this new glove tanned is comparable to the old stuff, then it won't even matter. I used to carry a GLT bag all throughout high school, with no concern for leather care and it looks as good today as it did then. As a matter of fact, I had never cleaned or conditioned it until about two weeks ago (after a mold issue)--it never needed it.
