I recently purchased the Givenchy small voyou raffia bag. Got a great price so thought I could put away for next spring/summer. The top edge is straight across on the front but wonky in the back. I was surprised when it arrived that it appears to be "defective" and I find it hard to believe a brand like Givenchy would make such a subpar looking bag (even the bottom of bag on back looks shoddy ). I was advised by the seller that she thought this was part of the "design" as even the photo on Neiman Marcus website do show the uneven edge if you look closely. However, photo on Givenchy website make it appear is if should be even across the top in the back, same as front.

Does anyone own this bag? What do you think?

Note photo from Givenchy site compared to other stock photo from dept store.

I’m sorry but that looks terrible. Definitely a defect.
Thanks, I agree. Going to be mailing it back and ordering another one directly to see if it looks better. But did find it odd when she pointed out the photo she shared, attached here.

Since it’s my opinion that Givenchy wouldn’t sell a bag in this condition, my next thought is that this is not authentic.
I was thinking that too BUT.... i don't know that this would be a popular enough to be replicated style, the other parts of bag, tags, dustbag, etc do appear authentic (in no expert but do own several items by this brand), and that photo on the Neiman Marcus website really throwing me for a loop.

It's all extremely odd. Good luck with any decision you come to! :flowers:

So the bag arrived from givenchy today....Not quite as janky looking as other one but definitely still not what I would expect from this brand. The other one definitely seemed authentic, I guess this really is a design flaw. I am really surprised! I can't imagine they couldn't figure out how to align the raffia better or why even bother making/selling this bag? I wonder how other similar designers bags are in comparison (I think Loewe has similar raffia bag).

So I was just perusing the Celine website, not looking for a raffia bag but stumbled across this and notice that the back of it similar unevenness as the Givenchy one (both along top and bottom). That prompted me to look more closely at pics of the Loewe basket bag online and low and behold it appears to also have similar issue. Maybe there's not a way to get weave of this even on this shape bag? I am really shocked at the poor looking quality of bags from such well known luxury brands, especially when charging over $6500-750 for straw with a tiny bit of leather! Can probably find one of similar quality at a flea market for $20!

Hello there! I thought I’d chime in with my observations. I found myself in a very similar position when my wife wanted the Loewe basket bag, and found a varying degree of what you posted above but essentially it seemed (and was told by Loewe) it is not a design flaw but just how bags are made in this material. I thought it looked cheap and reminded me of the bags my mum used to buy in local markets. I just came across this Tods version which has been made with leather panels seemingly covering up that finish so design wise it looks much more refined in my opinion. Also currently on sale! Perhaps this may help?

How nice of you to chime in and yes, that design was wise with the leather covering up the "afflicted" area. Thanks for sharing!

I ended up ordering one directly from Givenchy and it was similar. I've seen other similar style bags and all have this similar issue. I still use it bc it's on back and not really noticeable.
