Givenchy Antigona, Ysl College Bag or Lv Speedy B?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, although I’ve been following it for a while. I’m new to the luxury handbags world and I hope I can get your invaluable advice.

I’m looking for an office bag that transition day to night. A little bit about myself: I’m 26, I work in a big law firm in London and my only luxury bag is the Gucci soho disco crossbody bag in black. I intend to carry my bag on the shoulder or at least having that option.

I’ve been eyeing these three bags:

• Givenchy small antigona in the smooth leather (black)
• Saint Laurent large college bag (black)
• Speedy bandouliere 30 in d’amore ebene

I’m in love with the design and glossy leather of the Antigona, it can hold a lot and I know the leather is really durable as well, however I’m afraid it can be bulky especially on public transport and for me it’s quite a formal-day bag, which I don’t see myself with at night.

As for the Saint Laurent college bag, I find this to be, out of the three bags, the one that transitions best day to night. I find it as edgy as the antigona but more versatile and I love the external pocket which I find very convenient, along with the gorgeous hardware. However it’s the smallest of the three and I’m afraid the beautiful chevron lambskin leather can show wear and tear more easily.

Lastly, I love the fact the Speedy B 30 in damier ebene is a timeless piece, I love damier ebene and it’s definitely very roomy, easy to carry around and carefree. That being said, damier ebene is super recognisable by everyone and I don’t like to be flashy, also the canvas makes the bag more casual to my eyes. I’m also thinking that the damier ebene doesn’t go well with other patterns.

I have the possibility to get these three bags for a similar price point, so I’m not taking price into account.

Do your coworkers carry LV bags? If so I'd go with speedy, if not then maybe the Antigona.

It’s quite a conservative environment, that’s why I wasn’t sure about Lv

I would avoid the YSL because of its big logo and small size.
Then... tough choice between the Antigona and the Speedy.
Personally I would go for the Speedy. Are you sure everyone knows the damier ébène is an LV print?
And even if they do, it isn't what I would call a flashy bag.

I have the speedy B and the Antigona and something similar in YSL (classic monogram shopping bag tote) and would say it would definitely be between the LV and YSL. Ultimately, LV would win due to it being the DE canvas whereas the YSL has a buttery soft leather and that stuff is SO insanely sturdy and that bag can take on pretty much anything without you worrying about severe damage. I have it in size 30 and wear it crossbody which frees up the hands which is really helpful at times, with little kids to run after and hold. Definitely the LV Speedy B. Whatever size suits your lifestyle!

Thank you Mariapia. I thought about the logo as well, even though it’s quite small compared to the size of the bag. Today I checked in store and it’s definitely not big enough and it doesn’t look like a bag you can overstuff.

Thank you Izzy! Yes Speedy is for sure the most practical between the three bags, I really love the style as well, I just need to convince myself that it’s not an issue having a bag so popular and easily recognisable

I love the college bag and own one! I was actually about to purchase the speedy (had similar choices as you), but decided to go for Chanel instead. But the college and speedy fit an awful lot. I like the Antigona, but too boxy and heavy.

So which one did you choose?! I’m all for the college, but if you would like your first luxury handbag - pick something of a good size that can match everything. The antigona May be boxy, but it looks great with suits! The design is discreet too
