I’m looking to gift my sister her first pair of luxury earrings. My husband and I are considering the Cartier trinity earrings, but I figured I would also post here and ask for recommendations.

She’s in her early 30s, has 2 piercings per ear, and generally doesn’t wear any jewelry but is hoping to start stacking her earrings. She has random earrings from stores like Mejuri and J Crew, but my husband wants to gift her a nice set of forever earrings. She has a Cartier tank watch but otherwise no lux jewelry and never wears necklaces.

The main reason we looked at trinity is bc I know she wanted to pick up a trinity ring for herself next. Hoping to keep the gift around $1000-1500, and I’m also open to buying multiple pairs of earrings. All recs are greatly appreciated!

Trinity earrings from Cartier sound nice, and I'm not trying to put you off as I have a pair (different model) but the only one I can see around that price range are the small plain gold half hoop (inner diameter: 10mm). I don't think they're great value tbh.

I also think that J Crew to Cartier is quite a jump. You could buy some very nice 2 or 3-colour 18ct gold earrings for that money from a good jewellery store. Knots or hoops should be fabulous at that price-point and high-value gold is always lux.

Thank you all!

@limonchello @A bottle of Red I LOVE the idea of diamond studs, but my parents gifted me a pair for my wedding, and I think they plan to do the same for her, so I’m hoping to steer clear of them.

@limonchello she turned down a pair of (white) pearl earrings from my parents. I think they may be too classic for her, but she might like Tahitian pearls. I’ll look into that.

@papertiger great ideas, thank you! I’ll look into both, but I think knots would be perfect for her.

@leechiyong her style is the exact opposite of mine, so while it’s difficult for me to pick, my husband says he just picks everything he thinks I won’t wear.

Something to consider is the weight of earrings.

If your sister is used to costume or gold-plated (lightest to thickest layer: gold-plated, gold vermeil, gold-filled) earrings, they will be lighter than solid gold earrings.
The reason why I don't buy a lot of solid gold earrings that are of a "larger" size is that I don't like my earrings too heavy.
I have a pair of hollow gold-filled hoops that are about a little over an inch long and they feel quite heavy to me.

But it really depends if weight is something that bothers your sister a lot or is something she is sensitive to. If not, then don't mind this post haha.:P

Perhaps you have already selected the gift, but I would consider buying her the Trinity ring since this is the item that you know she does want, instead of the earrings that may or may not work for her. Since she does not often wear jewelry, she may want to experiment with a few cheaper earring styles and combos first as a trial. Once she finds the style, size and weight that she likes, you can buy her earrings for the next big gift.
