Hi,

I am a college student who is not financially well off at the moment, looking a nice pair of cufflinks for my boyfriend.

But I have never bought anything like it, so could anyone help me with this?

Thanks

well, i don't know about cuff links, since i don't wear them, and unless your boyfriend is always in suits and whatnot and actually wears cuff links, or wears them often, i would say scrap the cuff links idea. Though I don't know your boyfriend, it's just that usually cuff links are, IMO, the one men's accessory that gets used the least.

also, "financially well off" could mean different values for different people, that being said, perhaps you want to give us a little more info on how much you're willing to spend?

eitherway, i'm sure your boyfriend will love whatever you get him, mostly because it came from you!

Just make sure that they are t-bar style (they flip down), or at least barbell. Chain link style cufflinks are hard to put on.

I have a pair of Return To Tiffany cufflinks that I like, I think they sell for $175. Unless your boyfriend really likes or collects cufflinks though I would go with something else. I wear a suit 5 days a week and I pretty much only use them when I'm in a wedding (which seems like every few months now that I just reached 30.)

What is your budget? Tiffany's makes lovely cufflinks from about $175 up, and Hermes makes stunning ones (my favorites) from about $250 or $300 up. Try Brooks Brothers or Red Envelope for less expensive styles. Paul Smith makes really fun ones but I'm not sure of the price. If your boyfriend does not dress up in french-cuff shirts often (don't overlook that detail- many shirts are not french cuff and cannot be worn with cufflinks, so make sure he owns at least one before buying cufflinks!), a money clip might be a nice gift. I got my boyfriend a Tiffany's money clip with his initials engraved on it, for under $150. He loves it and uses it every day.

onderland asked some pretty good questions, maybe you could help guide us by specifying what you said so we could better help you and give you better suggestions. if anyways, i think you should get some monogrammed cufflinks, that would be somethin.

Thanks for your reply guys!
My budget will be around 200 dollars.
I have been getting my boyfriend couple of nice ties that are 100-200 dollars each, and I got him some nice dress shirts. And now I am running out of ideas, what to get for him! I thought cufflinks would be nice since he wears suits 5days a week kinds. But if you guys have other ideas, let me know!
oh, and I have thought of a watch, but didn't think I could get a nice one with 200 dollars. He is not in college but a working man!

My DH loves cuff-links - and I have purchased most of his from Neiman Marcus - they have some very funky to classic styles.

If you have a NM near you go in-store, if not check them out online!!

I bought my DH a leather "Rogue tusk" bracelet £160 (it wraps around the wrist twice) from Links of london, which he loves. It looks really modern and has a silver toggle in a tusk shape. The lady in the store said they had sold lots before last xmas and had none returned (which is a good sign). It's just a thought.

If your boyfriend has shirts that use cuff links and he wears them a lot, depending upon where you live in the country, sometimes the art-jewelry stores like The Clay Pot in Brooklyn, or Velvet da Vinci in San Francisco have some really lovely cufflinks in your price range. If you want to go name brand, Tiffany does make some nice cufflinks as well. I gave my DH a monogrammed silver key ring from Tiffany and he was very happy with it.
