ghw possible to wear off? looking at pre-owned

Hi ladies, I read in a thread that the gold tone hw should have a square symbol in order to be authentic. I am looking at a beige pre-owned on ebay (not rec thru tpf but top rated seller) and they say there is no square. Plus, the button closure gold is wearing away. Is this possible for an authentic?

^ITA, & yes the gold plating MAY wear off. Tends to happen only to well-worn purses though.

It is possible, chanel started doing the gold hw with no mark from 08/09, so if the bag is from that year or later, it is possible that it might not have the mark. But you should still post in the authenticate this thread to see if it is indeed authentic.
