I underwent a primary rib cartilage rhinoplasty and a "midface augmentation" procedure back in November 2018 with Dr Myung Ju Lee at VIP Plastic Surgery Korea (previously in Seoul, now located in Jeju Island) and it is the worst and most expensive mistake I have ever made in my life.

I have written everything I want to say on RealSelf website about my result and experience with Dr Lee and posted all my photos there, so if you want to read all about it and be warned about the hell that I had gone through so that you guys won't have the unfortunate experience of going through it too, you can read my review there.

This is the link: https://www.realself.com/review/pri...-amp-midface-aug-vipdr-myung-ju-lee-worst-amp

Basically, if you don’t know what kind of nose you want, you can go to him. But if you know exactly what kind of nose you want and suits your face, don’t go to Dr Myung Ju Lee. He won’t listen to your needs and concerns, he will just give you whatever nose result that he himself thinks is nice or is capable of doing, and then you’ll have to just accept the result.

I was given a nose result that I never wanted or liked and was gaslighted and put through emotional and mental hell for over a year because, even though I told them from the very beginning I did not like my result when my nose cast was removed and I saw my new nose/face for the first time, Dr Lee and VIP consultants kept gaslighting me and kept making me feel like I got a good result and that I’m crazy not to accept it and they kept telling me that the nose shape will change and the ridiculously high and protruded nose that Dr Lee gave me will go lower but it’s a lie because after 2 years the nose shape and height are almost the same as when my new nose was revealed to me, and now I’m stuck with an unnaturally high, protruded, straight fake-looking rhinoceros/bird-beak-like nose.

From the way I was treated by Dr Lee and VIP, I can’t help but to feel that Dr Lee and VIP just want to make me wait long enough that I will just get used to my new nose after seeing it for over a year and forget what I had looked like before so that I would just accept my new nose and not bother them anymore.

I’ve also been told and shown photos by other former patients of Dr Lee that he gave all of us the same kind of nose – big, high, straight nose with no specific definition of the nose tip that suits/is “harmonious” with our specific facial features – as though he only knows one style and technique and that’s it.

And also be very careful about VIP consultants and Dr Lee recommending unnecessary procedures to you, like the “midface augmentation” procedure that they’ll make you think you need, but after doing it, if you get a restricted smile and have an unbalanced side profile because you now have a more protruded midface, they won’t take responsibility and you’ll have to suffer not being able to smile properly or smile as broadly as before. Even my speech has been somewhat detrimentally affected because of the restriction and tightness I now feel in my midface/upper lip area caused by the needlessly recommended “midface augmentation” procedure!

I was charged USD12k for a primary rib cartilage rhinoplasty and “midface augmentation” and it’s the worst and most expensive mistake of my life. I thought $$$ = quality but I was so wrong!!! I’ve seen other people who used other materials like septal and ear cartilage that cost much cheaper but got much nicer and more natural-looking nose than the unnaturally high, protruded, straight fake-looking rhinoceros/bird-beak-like nose that Dr Lee has given me! And this is a doctor who on his website calls himself “Harmony Face Surgery Expert” who provides “harmonious rhinoplasty” and is “one of the best plastic surgeons in existence today”?!?! Have I been scammed?!?!?!

Dr Lee and VIP acted like one of those unscrupulous businesses that take your money, give you what you never wanted, and hope that you never bother them ever again. Beware of Dr Myung Ju Lee and VIP!!

PS: You know a clinic is an expert/only focused on in marketing when they keep using the same patient/model to promote the clinic, asking the same patient/model to post a raving review about the clinic and doctor, like she's the only success story. You can check out that review on their Google Maps here: https://g.page/vippsjeju?share

I have been told by other former patients that they're very good at marketing and posting fake reviews, so beware of any raving reviews about the clinic or the doctor that seem too good to be sure. My advice to anyone thinking of undergoing any surgery is to always find former patients of that clinic/doctor and ask for opinions and photos of the result. If a doctor/clinic is terrible, you will have a hard time finding many happy former patients. My mistake with VIP and Dr Lee was blindly reading and trusting the good reviews posted about them, which I was told by former patients were probably posted by staff and former patients who were given free products to leave good reviews.

You have been warned! Beware of Dr Myung Ju Lee and VIP!

Wait did your old screenname used to be "Kane"? i remember a kane who did rhino and midface augmentation with VIP.
VIP is also known to photoshop their results

Nope, that’s not me. It seems that is basically VIP’s sales pitch to every potential patient: do rib rhinoplasty and midface augmentation, doubling their $$$ from unsuspecting patients and running their clinic like a factory and treating their patients like cows to be slaughtered (taking money from us) and shoo us away when we get terrible result and keep gaslighting us into thinking that we got a good result and should be grateful we still have a nose and not bother Dr Lee anymore. That’s exactly the experience I got after letting Dr Lee touch my face.

I am absolutely not surprised at all if they photoshopped their B&As and their results. The B&As on their website look 100x nicer than the real results you see on their Instagram account and photos shared by their former patients.

VIP operates like a scam. I hope no one else has to experience and go through the hell that I went through with them. Please beware of Dr Myung Ju Lee and VIP (recently relocated to Jeju Island).

Sorry you went through all that and came out with something you didn't ask for. Given you basically pointed at one of their own B&A pics and said give me that, this isn't a case of the doctor not understanding what you wanted. The fact your nose still looks as bulbous as before makes me wonder what the heck did he even do to the tip? Did he say he implanted cartilage in the tip? BTW did your nose look slimmer immediately after surgery and it seemed to grow as time went on? If so I wonder if you might have developed pollybeak deformity, you might want to research that.

The midface augmentation definitely sounds like a cash grab. It's suppose to reduce nasolabial lines but you didn't need that and it actually seemed to have made the NL lines more prominent. What type of implant was used for that? I would get them removed. Good luck.

Sorry you had a bad experience with VIP.
I read some reviews on Google, most of possitive reviews are translated from other language and seems like only 2-3 reviews are written by real patients which was totally negative reviews with one star!
That’s the most afraid part that if I go to very well known by advertisement and big clinic. They always take money out of the pocket and do not take their own responsibility on their position!

The worst thing is they have staff going around the internet posting bad reviews about other clinics to ruin their competitors' reputation. You just have to click on the profile of those who posted negative comments about other clinics to see that they also post raving and good reviews about VIP and Dr Lee. VIP and Dr Lee are one of the most dangerous scammers in business right now.

I actually consulted them back in 2014 I believe. I met his wife who is also his assistant. Funny enough, she actually gave me a better consultation than him LOL. But I didnt go to VIP because his methodology didn't make any sense to me, and I am also aware that using rib has a very high risk of aesthetic complications, far more often than using silicone. I especially didnt like how he wanted to fix my deviated septum, which made no sense for the following reasons:

1) most people have some mild degree of deviation to the septum. This is often within the range of natural asymmetry and is not noticable. Such is the case with my nose.
2) you dont go and perform a resection on the nasal base just to fix natural asymmetry. You end up risking it turning into visible asymmetry.
3) suggesting to perform that added procedure in my case is..........just an attempt to charge me extra 1.5million krw -_-

Thanks for sharing and I'm sorry to hear abt your experience. Your primary rhinoplasty is sooooo pricey!
I guess they must not be not doing well in Seoul, seeing that they have relocated to Jeju? Haha

Thanks for sharing about your experience and Im sorry you went through all that with VIP.… I’ve been seeing a lot of posts on them here on the forum since consulting back found that everyone seemed to have gone through similar experiences.

Honestly speaking, maybe I was fooled by their marketing efforts, but i really thought dr. Myungju lee was credible in his works…especially in revision rhinoplasty with autologous methods.. but little did I know when I went in for consultation and all he did was trying to suggest other procedures like midface augmentation to go with my rib cartilage rhinoplasty revision…absolutely lacking attention and focus of my main goal of being there - rhinoplasty. I couldn’t help but notice that some of the B&A photos seemed photoshopped too (I am meticulous at pointing these things out as I work in the digital graphics field). I was also quoted a whopping 14k estimate for the full care package(?) that included skincare and what not for a 2nd revision rhinoplasty using rib cartilage.

I was totally discouraged given how convinced I was, but my gut feeling just said no.

To make this short, my two top choices after my experience with VIP was: Dr. Jeong from the Plus and Dr. Jay Kim from Eight. And as of now I am scheduled to meet with both of them again during my next trip to Seoul in Jan. I didn’t want to make a rushed decision and put any deposit down for a future reservation and then the pandemic happened… so here I am now.

Based on my consultation with dr. Jeong, they’ve been very good with communication although its not directly consulting with dr. Jeong on chat and they‘ve quoted 12-13k USD which i thought was on the higher side for sure..they seem to have quality service so Im still keeping my mind open about them also cuz I like dr. Jeongs before/after photos and he has credible reputation. Their english consultant’s been very nice as well and they seem quite collected and organized as a clinic.

With Eight plastic surgery, I’m actually in direct communication with the rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Kim (the chief surgeon, there might be another Dr. Kim) and he speaks fluent english cuz he was apparently an expat himself living outside of Korea before his practice. With him I feel so at ease in terms of communication making me less worried abt all the horror with being miss-dealt with after surgery should there be an issue. And one other aspect I’ve noticed is just that they don’t seem to heavily invest in marketing for foreigners? maybe they have agents but given that dr. Kim online consults himself and everything thats just the feeling I get. Also not to mention that I’ve ofcourse background checked dr. Kims credentials, he’s also very reputable and actually involved in some academic associations with dr. .Jeong as well so thats a good sign. And I was quoted under 9-10k USD ..dr. Kim said he’d get a better idea of the scar tissues after some scans and examination and that he can quote me more accurately after getting an better idea of how complex and how long the surgery will likely take.

I hope sharing my experience helps someone out there if youre considering any of the mentioned doctors and clinics…I’ve found it helpful doing my own research and just getting insight of the reality of this whole industry. Sorry again for your unfortunate journey with VIP @guy8989 !

Ps. would love to hear more if anyone else has further experiences with The Plus or Eight!

Hi Christina! I'm waiting to go to Korea in the spring and hope to have a consultation with Dr. Jeong as well! Were you given a quote via Kakao? May I ask what their tentative plan for you is?

Hi Christina...I was wondering, are you a primary rhinoplasty or revision, because I'm looking for revision rhinoplasty who using rib cartilage and dcf coz the one that i have now is a silicon implant done by dr.Kim from Item clinic which made my nose asymmetric, imbalance nostril and shorten nose and difficult breathing so I'm looking now for ENT and specialist plastic surgeon for revision. I wish someone could inform me which doctor and clinic. thanks.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I’m very sorry for what you have to endure. In 2019, after look at my pictures, VIP also quoted for rib cartilage rhino for 12k usd + rev fee for 1k usd, mid-augmentation for another 3k usd. The total is quite very high and lucky enough it is a reason why I didn’t proceed the plan.

Hi, I was just quoted from VIP 7,000 usd for nose surgery and 12,000 usd for rib rhinolasty. I thought this was a lot, especially since banobagi quoted me about 4,300 usd for rhinoplasty. Does anyone know the price range I should expect for rhinoplasty in Korea? I was thinking 6,000 usd would be the average, but I just read one of the comments that said that The Plus quoted them 12-13k usd and that was where I was hoping to go. I have really had my sight set on Dr.Jeong from The Plus, and I am currently waiting for a consultation, but now I am concerned that the price will be way higher than what I imagined.

Sorry to hear your story. Your link had been removed and do you mind to show b&a photo so we can see what you are taking about? Why haven't you contacted the doctor back asking for revision?
The price that you paid for also including guesthouse where you stayed and meals wasn't it? TIA
