(This is the first time I start a thread - so bear with me)

I have bought my luxury hand bags pre-loved for years. It makes sense for me in so many ways, and with Hermès even more as I like many vintage models not sold in the store any more. Not to mention that so few bags actually seem to be for sale at the store, anyway….

And yet, some bags cannot be found pre-loved. Or only a crazy prices (for H that is saying something) - and that is not the point of buying pre-loved, right? I am not talking about BKC, the bag I set my heart on is the Della Cavelleria bag. Excellent reviews here on TPF, good size, practical - just a really great bag, it seems.

I even got to try it on in an airport store (“oh no, it is not for sale - how would people try it on if we sold all the bags?” - yeah, puzzling, isn’t it?). But I liked it.

I started saving. After a while I also started asking in H stores in different European countries. I stayed in Brussels 3 months this spring for work (loved it), and asked many times in the store there. Always sold out.

I really wanted a bag in white or burgundy that I could wear crossbody. The Della Cavelleria would work well, and I had saved enough money to buy it. What a great thing to remember my stay in Brussels by!

I thought about going to Paris (close to Brussels compared to what I am used to in my home country), but read about the appointment system. All that and maybe not even getting the bag - plus spending time in lovely Paris fretting. No thank you.

So I gave up. Or I decided the DC could wait. If the boutiques did not want to sell me any bags, others would. This is when I bought not one, but TWO lovely bags, to be worn crossbody (once I get a strap that is, but I have a non-H strap on order)! Here they are, white and burgundy, just like I wanted:

White epsom Plume 20 and burgundy (don’t knowH color or leather) Berlingot GM

What do you think? Do you get fed up with the sparse choice in the H boutiques and run to vintage bag sellers? Do you find you get more for your money that way?

As someone who loves a lot of designs that are now sadly discontinued.. Massai,Convoyeur GM,Gao,Paris-Bombay,Initiel,HAC 32 to name just a few..
And I also prefer to buy a used but well looked after quota bag that I can use in a carefree manner without fretting over scratches and scuffs (I dont baby my things at all) I think you've made a great decision and I love both your bags.
Sadly I have to agree with @BVBookshop that the prices of vintage bags are now becoming far too inflated leading me to decide I'll probably have to hold out on the wish-list system for a Birkin 35 and Kelly 32 or 35 and go against my sensibilities and buy new.
I refuse to pay almost or sometimes more than a new bag costs in order to purchase one 10years old!
I'm hoping that prices will drop however with bags I'm 'watching' selling quickly at these inflated prices it may be a long wait....

I love your style, and love both of these! And yes, I love my vintage deals! Wear both in the best health and happiness!

@LouiseCPH , I love how you approached this and well said. I am the same, I do not entertain or play the chicken dance that the majority do here with their SAs and spend triple what a Q Bag cost to be offered something. Something that's not even what they are after or not even the color combo they want. No thanks but no thanks. I will never be at the mercy of an SA. This isn't rocket science. I give my SA a 1 year turn around, if she cannot meet my needs, second market lux retailer route will. I get most of the time its the decision of the store director. 1 year of a waiting period for a requested bag is plenty, if my request is not met, I move on and source it myself in like new condition and I do not mind paying that extra 2-3k to get what I want. I am honest with my SA about my approach and continue to get offered QBs that I want. I will not play the H game and be at the mercy of someone.

I know - I agree with you. I will not pay extra for a used bag, there are too many lovely bags in the world for that!

Thank you!
You are more direct than I am - but I must admit when I had “no” in the boutique for the 3rd or 4th time I couldn’t help comment my lack of understanding of the Hermès business model. Especially when they have no knowledge of what stock they will receive or when!
