Hi,

I hope everyone is having a lovely day/evening.

Hoping for some help from the more experienced of you on here. I came home today and opened up my MoP pendant (after waiting two months for someone to call me back about a blue agate one). I bit the bullet and bought the vintage Alhambra pendant. I have the sweet carnelian heart and love it.

I thought it was great at first, but I remember once reading on here about gaps in pieces. I held it up to the light and could indeed see gaps (see pic). I don’t know if this is all normal, or should I ring up and tell them?

I’m GIA certified so know about gemstone properties/qualities…I wanted to avoid any gemstone with an “ite” on the end of it as it practically melts…athough it depends on the type of pearl and how it’s been cut and polished.

Look forward to hearing your experiences and what to do! ♥️IMG_4468.jpeg

I think the air gap in any motif is considered normal, but it's up to you on how big of the gap you're willing to tolerate or overlook. Considering MOP has the tendency to shrink when expose to chemicals extensively and/or merely not coping well with your pH, you may be running the risk of the it continue to shrink overtime if not being cared for properly. I haven't heard or seen anyone's MOP pendant shrinking to the point where it fall out of the perle frame though.

All the motifs of my two bracelets (BA and onyx) have some gaps so it’s normal. But I’ve seen pics of motifs with relatively bigger gap or uneven gap. Looking at your photo yours is not bad at all.

What do you mean? Just curious..!

To your question, I’ve just checked my MOP pendant and doesn’t have any gaps. Ultimately it’s not about what is “normal” though, but what YOU think of it, if it annoyed you every time you saw it, it is worth switching, but if you think you would forget about it and enjoy your piece, then don’t! :)

gaps are unfortunately not uncommon but thankfully cannot really be seen when wearing the piece.
I would be more concerned with the sheen, reflectiveness and color of the MOP. Some are more colorless with less sheen, others are more rainbow/pink. It really just depends on the piece.
That’s how I would decide. When I got my GMOP pave 5 motif bracelet, I chose the one with better iridescence and more interesting motifs than the one that had less gaps.
