"The Bag Whisperer!"

I was at a workshop on Friday and the instructor was talking about assessing value and wise decision-making and she made this statement "For example. you might see a beautiful Coach bag and immediately think that it is the most gorgeous purse that you've ever seen - but then you take a look at the price and it costs $500! So you immediately put it back down rather than spend so much money on a mere purse!"

I was sitting in front and when she made that statement, so I gave her a little smile and reached over to stroke my Oxblood Prairie Rivets Rogue that was sitting next to me. She looked startled and immediately started back-peddling and began saying things like "Or maybe you would spend that much on a purse! If you could afford it and felt that it was worth the money! It's all about making a wise decision."

Poor thing! There is nothing wise or sensible about having a purse addiction!

[emoji23] This is great! You schooled her with just a gentle stroke of your bag. It's a learning opportunity too. Everyone has their likes and wants and just because a person doesn't think it's reasonable to spend over a certain amount of money on a "mere purse" or any other item there are a lot of other people out in the world who do. We should always be thoughtful of the comments, assumptions and generalizations that we make.

Maybe she spends her money on a mere something else

Good point! I remember watching an old episode of "What Not to Wear" about a businesswomen, wife, and mother, who dressed very badly. She never bought new clothes for herself and everything was long out-of-style and ill-fitting.

At one point she said "I just don't think that clothes are worth the expense!" and Stacy London replied "Well, I imagine that your house is gorgeous because you must spend your money on something!" and that sure shut the woman up immediately!

I look at this way: everybody has their "thing" they're willing to splurge on. Some people (like us) like bags. Other might balk at spending as much as we do on bags, but they don't flinch at dropping several hundred on latest smartphone, tablet, or other tech gadget. Some people like to spend money on their cars. In any case, money is being spent, and nobody should be judge-y about one way or another.

Haha, it's nice that she back peddled to try not to offend you. I was once having a team lunch at work (in tech, so predominantly male) and my manager was talking about how crazy it was that his wife wanted these expensive purses and he just didn't understand why when you could go to Target and get a purse that functions the same  I was surrounded by logical thinking, practical dudes, so obviously everyone was agreeing. I told him he should get her one though haha. I met her earlier this year and she had a Michael Kors bag so maybe he finally caved.
