Hi

I am desperate to get my hands on my first Birkin - well technically my second Birkin, as I bought a 40cm Taurillon Clemence in Gold with GHW last year but never really like the colour when it arrived and am now going to let it go.

My Black 40cm Taurillon Clemence with GHW is due in any day and I'm desperate to get the funds together. I've had a really good offer on my Chanel Vinyl Coco Cabas from a couple of years ago, but I'm loathe to part with it as I still like it - although nowhere near as much as my coveted Birkin!

Should I accept the offer? I can't seem to make a decision.

I don't have a birkin, but from what I have read on the forum, once someone gets one that's pretty much what they carry, exclusively. The same might happen to you. If the Chanel is not too difficult to replace, suggest taking the offer for the Chanel. If you find you really miss it you can then buy another.

Thank you very much. That's really good advice.

I get in a dither about things and the new Birkin doesn't feel as tangible as the Chanel yet. Also my first Birkin was a bit of a false start as I had to place the order in a rush with little choice of colour and no real knowledge. It's really hard when you can't take time over things properly, especially when so much money is involved.

i understand from the chanel forum that some gals really like the cabas and after they sell it they regret and went out to get one on *bay which ended up to cost more than they pay/sell. i personally think cabas is a really nice bag, versatile. but it really boils down to how often u going to use it as compare to birkin.
for me, i will go for birkin and sell cabas cause i like to bring the universe with me (actually more books and mag) so the bigger the bag the better. =P and i tend to go for more structured than slouchy bags. this is just me and my personal perferences.

You're feeling that you'll get more use out of Chanel cabas than a 40 black b.

I'd still say, go for 40 black b. w/gh.:woohoo:I'm a cabas fan but it's nowhere as near as a 40 black b. Deep in your heart, you'd love to own the 40 black b. (first post).:yes:

i'd do it, have done it and am doing it right now
I only try to part with Chanels that are not classics, that I haven't been using and that if I have any doubt about it i know I can easily find again later

sometimes that special Hermes comes up and you have to do what you have to do...the difference is that if I wait on the H it can take a long time to find the specific color, leather, hardware that you want again and the price just keeps rising...that makes it hard to justify holding on to Chanel that meets the criteria I listed above versus jumping on an H opportunity today

I sold a Cabas in leather a while back (though I did to get a modern chain instead in the same color). I think you can find this bag again in the future if you want it back. I would go for it.

I was a huge Chanel collector but I have turned to the H side and never looked back.
Hermes is Classic and your new bag will not be as trendy as you Cabas. Go for the H!

After a lot of soul-searching I have finally decided to part with my Coco Cabas. I know now that it's time. It's just taken me a while to get there.

Although I love the Coco Cabas I know that I love Hermes more. If money were no object I would keep the CC, but since it is a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do. Having just placed an order for a Croc Graphite I know that in the end I won't miss my CC. Ultimately it will bring me £1,000 closer to my ultimate bag, so it's got to be worth it.

I think you made a great choice. I just received my graphite croc Hermes bag. I love it.
