Hi ladies, I just wanted to share my experience with Goyard (and reveal my newest purchase) because I am so happy that we finally got our own subforum and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you all.

I had been a die-hard LV fan and customer since I was in middle school. I turned exclusive from the release of the first Sprouse graffiti collection and was a goner by the original Murakami MC collection. I worked my way up to a bag/small leather good/accessory a month habit, transitioned from staple pieces to runway bags, and infected everyone around me, buying my family and friends LV gifts to start their collections.

Then they released my holy grail bag, the Sprouse Neon Green Graffiti Speedy. I waited outside the SoHo store on the day of release for 4 hours in January in the snow and was happy to do so (even though they open over an hour late). However, after that collection, nothing really caught my eye. It was probably a combination of factors. For one, I was getting ready to start law school and was trying to save money. At the same time the economy where I live started to get worse, as well as the prices for LV bags seemed to rise exponentially. On top of that, everywhere I looked people seemed to be carrying them.

When my birthday came around in August, I held out finding my present until the champagne toast set up by my SA for my birthday. However, I did not find anything that I really liked. She showed me the Fall/Winter 2009 lookbook and I waitlisted for a few bags I wanted to see in person because the pictures did not seem to do them justice, however everything was to be released after my birthday and my parents wanted me to have gifts to open on my birthday.

Presentless, I remembered reading on the LV forum a thread about the Neverfull and the St. Louis. I looked into Goyard when that thread first was posted, but always had an LV to buy and since Goyard did not limited season/runway type bags I always put Goyard on the back burner. There was also limited information (styles, prices, etc. on the Goyard site) and I did not know how to pursue it. But, the most appealing part about Goyard at the time was that it came in Green (my favorite, can't live without color). So, desperate to get me a birthday present, my dad took me to BG.

I have to say, going to BG I was not impressed. The SA there was not very helpful and would not even wrap it in a BG box. I honed in on a Fidji because I was looking for a shoulder bag and did not want an open tote because I never used my Neverfull and actually kinda hated it. The Fidji was so light-weight and the canvas felt comparatively thin, that like many people, I did not understand the allure. I was also having trouble justifying the $1250 (iirc) price, especially because it was not lined, did not look that attractive empty, and did not require much complex assembly. But, my parents needed to get me a present and it wasn't my money being spent on the bag, so I got my green Fidji.

The first day I used it, I thought that I made a huge mistake. However, as I wore it more and it softened a little and got that beautiful slouched look to it, I began to love it. The more I wore it, the more it conformed to my body and became and extension of my person. I appreciated the fact that I could throw almost anything in there (including my 9am Torts coffee in proper travel mug) and the bag still felt weightless. My Fidji felt durable and I did not feel compelled to baby it, worry about the drops of rain falling on the handle, or clean the patch of ground I may put it down on.

About a month after my birthday, my LV SA called me to tell me that my waitlist bags came in. I went there fully expecting to buy it, however when I picked it up, there was no spark, no passion. It felt clumsy, foreign, and heavy. I kept looking at my Fidji, and I could not see myself stashing my Fidji in its dust bag and using the new bag. I suddenly became faithful to a bag. I had been faithful to a brand before, but never to a bag. I apologized to my SA and left the LV in the store empty-handed (another first).

Ever since then I have not been able to find anything appealing from LV. Everything seems to be a variation of something I've seen before, have, or a combination of the two. Everyone seems to be wearing LV or staring at you funny because you have LV. It is too convenient to get anything LV now; they have become too mainstream. Items that the SAs tell you is limited, hard to get, or reserved for someone else can just be bought on louisvuitton.com no hassle. On the other hand, Goyard seems more elusive: you still have to do your research as to what bag you want and sometimes you have to do the legwork to track the color/style too.

For Christmas my parents wanted to get me another Goyard, and I was surprised that I actually hesitated saying "yes" because I love my Fidji so much and did not think I could replace it. Nevertheless, the three of us went down to Barneys to have a look. I remembered seeing an orange Jeanne PM at BG in the Summer, but when I asked the BG SA she said that they no longer carried the size. However the most wonderful SA helped me at Barneys and brought me the colors they had (Black/Tan, Navy, and Maroon). So, instead of replacing my Fidji, I supplemented it with the black and tank Jeanne PM. I loved the shape, and the fact that it was a perfect size for carrying only the essentials during the day or going out at night.

But, now looking at the subforum I am completely and utterly hooked and want one of each. Despite the 4 month lag time between my Fidji and Jeanne...I kinda, sorta, went to Barneys on Monday......and well, I kinda, sorta have a box. Thank you for being so patient and letting me tell my story. The following reveal is probably pointless and a little silly, but I am so excited I could not stop myself.

So beuatiful- could you post specs? I loved your story- I think a lot of us can relate to what you wrote. I too have been a dyed-in-the-wool LV and Hermes afficianado since probably before you were born and I too have wanted to venture into Goyard territory. Where I live (LA), I have noticed more and more Goyards on the shoulders of people- I think many are tired of the ubiquitous LV, esp NF. And Hermes is just too expensive for us common folk with constantly rising prices- plus, there are so many knock-offs of the birkin that it just does not seem special anymore. I think Goyard is so great because it is still an under-the-radar bag. Hopefully it will stay that way and counterfeits do not start popping up.

That said, I do have an Alma BB in pomme on hold for me- not sure if it will make its way home with me. In December I bought the sac plat in mirroir and after about a week of deliberation, I decided to return it because it is just not something I will ever use and I would rather put the money toward something I will actually use and enjoy.

Thanks so much for sharing- I hope to own a Goyard one day as well. BTW, would love to see your Goyard collection!

Ayala...I'm so happy for you! It makes me happy too knowing that someone else has learned to appreciate Goyard for their craftsmanship and exclusivity. Have a great new years with your fantastic new bags!

Beautiful!!

I used to be die-hard Balenciaga before I came over to Goyard, and I agree with almost everything you said in your post (substituting Bal for LV, of course!).

I'd love to see a family picture of your three Goyards...

toujours*chic: I will post the specs when I get home. It is the PM size though. I'm biased, of course, but I would say use the Alma money toward a Jeanne PM.

ahertz: I was thinking the same thing as I was typing my post, lol. When I get home I think that is what I'm going to do.

I used to be a die hard Prada fan with a little Gucci and Chanel tossed in for good measure. Once I bought a Goyard I found myself using it nonstop and not changing out of it much. So sorry you had a bad experience at BG, the Goyard specialist there really is great. Enjoy your St. Louis.

I love it too. Though I have yet to buy a Goyard bag, I can totally relate to your BG trip. I went there in 2007 and was totally set on buying Goyard, and then I felt the fabric. It almost gave me a heartattack, they'd better be something special. I was seriously looking for some gold lining in the bag so I could justify the prices.
Now, 3 years later, I will test these waters again. But this time a different setting; Paris. And I'm pretty sure I'll get me some Goyard.
