Has anyone removed odor from a bag by sticking it in the freezer? I bought a used LV Neverfull which has stunk up my home. The odor has permeated both the inside and outside of the bag. And wait for it.... it smells like your house after you’ve fried up some chicken. I’ve tried apple cleaner and the conditioner. It’s had baking soda sitting in the inside. Nothing seems to be helping. I resorted to trying febreeze and even Lysol spray on the interior. Nothing is helping. The inside AND outside smell. I even smell after touching the bag.

That bag must have lived in a fried food place. Never heard of the freezer thing. Some suggestions, try what you have already done a few more times except the febreeze, leave outside in breeze in sunlight a few days. (did this with a smoke smelling leather Chloe - helped heaps) Leave the basking soda inside for days, mix 50/50 water & vinegar, and wipe down with cloth - do this a few times and again leave in sun after each time for it to work.

Yikes! That sounds horrible! I had a stinky used purse that didn't respond to the normal techniques like putting charcoal in the bag. I hung it on a hanger that I hung on a tree branch. I left it outside for 3-4 windy days and let the bag flap in the wind. I hung only one strap on the hanger and positioned it so wind blew inside the bag. That worked at evicting the smells.

I've never used saddle soap on coated canvas but it's always worked wonders on leather. I think the soap is a bit oily so it doesn't dry out the leather. I'd be concerned that it would leave a coating on coated canvas. Also it's light tan in color and that might darken the canvas. Is there any particular soap that's recommended for LV canvas?

It is supposed to help kill bacteria in clothing. Wrap it in a waterproof bag first if you try it (a plastic bag will do). Leave for 3 days and leave out to slowly 'thaw' after as the leather may be in a more delicate state if frozen. I can't think that it's great for the leather trim but it doesn't hurt fur coats.

With or without the freezer, eventually the smell will fade if left outside for long enough.

Two separate tricks:
Charcoal as used in fish tank filters. Place in bowl. Put bowl in bag. Put all in unscented plastic bag for 48 hours or so.
Desiccant packets. Lots of them Same process.

Soap and water. Just give the whole thing a bath. There are some threads about “dunking” a Coach. Same will work with NF.
Best of luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks! I didn’t leave it in the freezer long enough. I will try again. There’s still a faint smell in the interior and outside. I will search how to actually wash it with soap and water. Odoban took about 70% of the smell. The inside is tolerable now. But I have an odoban solid sitting in it, so when I take that out it still may smell. The outside still smells a bit too. I’d like to use soap on the outside. Thanks for all the replies. I didn’t realize I got responses.

I've used this method twice. The first time on a bag that I purchased from a Japanese seller on eBay. It was a ferragamo bag in canvas and leather. It had a musty, storage type smell, though it wasn't overwhelming. I put it in a ziplock bag and threw it in the freezer overnight. It really made a difference. I did go in and condition all the leather before and after, as I was most worried about that.

The second time I did it was with a louis vuitton key cles that I inherited, and it was WELL used and had been in storage. I left this one in about two days, open, and it the freezer. Along with a good cleaning, it made a big difference.

I'm not sure if vachetta leather would be too delicate for this process.

One thing to remember is how truly powerful baking powder can be. I've used the vented boxes that they sell to put in the fridge, and put it at the bottom of the bag and tucked it away for a few days. You'd be surprised how many odours it can pull out.

Good luck.

I think the smell is practically gone from the inside. It’s the outside that still stinks. I’ve got some vinegar and may dilute it and try that for the outside. Not gonna lie, scared to put vinegar on the bag.
