I am landing in Frankfurt airport in March and trying to figure out where I am staying. I know, should of figurered that out first but it's a long story! Anyway, I am a member of RCI (timeshare) and thought I could just find a place through them but told nothing for hundreds of miles. Now I'm looking into hotels but wondering if possible or makes sense to leave airport and is there a train or something to another town I should go that's close by and look for room there or anyone have recommendations of places to stay in Frankfurt. I have to move fast on this, TIA

I have a direct flight to Frankfurt, no stops. Just found one place through RCI that says it is 70 miles away from Frankfurt airport. Silly question but once I got to airport how would I get there? I don't plan on renting a car so thinking, train or something?

ok, so I'm making some progress. First is there a train station right at airport somewhere. Please don't mind my stupid questions but I'm pretty much planning this by myself, lol
I found a timeshare place in Saarburg. Thinking maybe right from airport, hop on train to Saarburg? Eurailpass?

does it make sense to just purchase a one way ticket to hotel and later if we feel like going to another city, buy another train ticket? or buy multi pass? confused as there is different places to purchase tickets, eurail and dbahm?

I'm not much help but this will show how easy it is to get around Germany. I did an escorted tour that ended in Heidelburg. Instead of taking the provided transportation back to Frankfurt, we decided to wing it and stay an extra day. We just went to the train station and bought a ticket and just hopped on the train. Since we had luggage, we used a cab to get to our hotel in Frankfurt. Heidelburg was great. I would definitely get out of Frankfurt. Munich would be easy to access as well.

It's really easy to get tickets here; every single train/tram stop has a ticket machine for local and long distance. You can also buy tickets online and have them delivered to your phone on bahn.de. Also, you can sign up for the 25% or 50% bahn bonus card, it's really worth it for long distance travel.

It's SO easy to travel in Germany! Public transportation is amazing and (in my opinion) really, really easy to figure out. Maybe if you tell us a bit more about your plans we can help out with some better suggestions.. like how long will you be here for? will you just be staying in Germany? Do you want to travel around a lot and see as much as possible in a short period of time, or do you want more of a relaxing trip where you stay in one place for a few days before moving on to another, etc? And are you set on staying in a timeshare?

As far as train tickets go..it's been awhile since my family has been over here to visit me, but whenever they came to visit and I knew we'd be doing a lot of traveling all over the country, we got eurail passes.

Things seem to be falling into place, thanks for all the replies! From Frankfurt, I was going to Saarburg on train. That was the closest RCI timeshare in the area. Now, I'm looking into train to visit various countries. Should I buy the pass now or get ticket as I go along? Also, there are two nights where I will not have place to stay. Is it that hard to find a place to sleep as we go along?

Well, trip is next week, very excited. Plans are coming into place. We would like to visit France since we will be right at the border, Saarburg, Germany. What are your experiences with the cities nearby such as Alsace, Nancy, Canon or in that area? Thanks!

Just wanted to update everyone on my wonderful trip! Thanks for all the train advice. We went to Frankfurt, Saarburg, Cologne, Amsterdam and Luxembourg! We got the hang of the trains as we went along, my daughter was a big help. It was a trip I will never forget.
