Just starting a new thread for this in case anyone was planning on shopping at this place in NYC.

A couple years ago I bought a Prada bag from them. In very good condition. I was in heaven for a full year. This was wayyyyy before I knew about 'authenticators' and this board and just trusted that "New York City's Number One Consigment shop" would be reputable across the board.
Call me naive - trust me, I know. But I was new to bag collecting and 21 years old.

Fast forward a year -- the bottom of bag started falling apart a little (I was using it like crazy!) - brought it to Prada in NYC to have it sent out and to see if anything could be done to reinforce or fix the bag.

I get a call from Prada saying the bag was a really good COUNTERFEIT. The store sent it back to me unfixed saying sorry, we're not fixing it, we're not taking your money - it's not a real Prada.
The SA at Prada told me he was 'supposed to' confiscate the bag but would give it back to me to bring to the consign store. I left embarrassed with my still falling apart bag and po'ed.

Incensed, I brought it back to Fisch for the Hip/Out of out Closets consigment (same owner) and spoke to owner (female, last name Fischer??) - she was snotty, and MAINTAINED the bag was authentic even after I showed her the notice from Prada that it was FAKE. I left upset and incensed. NOT realizing at the time - I did have recourse. I thought I was SOL :(, young, naive. :shucks:

It was a year later after all, I guess - but she was no help and did not rectify the issue. And she could not BELIEVE Prada called the item counterfeit.
:rtr:

Moral of the Story: This is more for newbies but - after reading the threads on here regarding Linda's Stuff, etc...
WE cannot rely on consignment shops..
They rely on their consignors 'word' a bit too much. We have to get all second-hand purchases checked out if we don't get them from an actual store before or the minute we buy them.

Off the soap box now LOL Thanks.

if i were you i would create a tumblr page or some other type of blog page and post the entire story with photos.

i bet someone will reach out to you if the store name is googled and the page comes up.

Oh WOW - that's a good idea seltzer, I hadn't thought of that! - I think I will. Thank you :ghi5:

I'm so sorry to hear this, Jagger -- it is very disheartening. This is a great reminder to us all to have pre-owned items authenticated before purchasing. Fisch for the Hip should have offered you a full refund.

Thanks for sharing with us, Jagger!

Very disheartening. It's one thing for a store to be duped by a consignor. It's another to refuse to stand by their products in the face of evidence from the manufacturer that it is fake. I will avoid this store.

I'm sorry that happened to you, I know we've all made mistakes like that before (at least those of us who shop at consignment stores). The manager made the wrong decision. I'm betting she didn't mean to sell a fake, after all Prada said it was a very good fake but she should have at least offered to refund some of your money, store credit or replace the bag with another in her store. I know when it comes to consignment most don't refund, but in this case she should have eatten the cost and never consigned with that woman who brought the fake in.

I've gotten a few bags at consignment before and although I do trust them and know they do what they can to authenticate they aren't always experts. I always get it authenticated here just to be sure.

Thanks, ladies (gents?). :shucks:
I just wish I knew then what I know now from being on the forums here!!!!

I do agree - she probably didn't believe it to be fake when she consigned it, she had a lot of high end items...
I am sure it was pride that made her get 'insulted' - and to immediately dismiss everything I was saying with babble like, "I know the people at Prada, they know I have only authentics." :nogood::huh:
It's not like I went in there ranting and raving either - I was embarrassed FOR HER actually. I felt badly bringing it back!

@Lula Mae - true. She could have offered store credit and I would have felt fine with that.

I did not like leaving with a bag that I knew was a fake.

Her treatment of me left such a bad taste in my mouth though - that --- here we are and I still won't recommend that woman or her store because who knows what is the real thing or a 'really good fake' and she won't take responsibility if she is 'taken' by a consignor and instead - expects the buyers to.

Bad customer service. Cannot recommend them. Love you all though.

Give her bad reviews on review boards like yelp or yahoo. A business needs to stand behind their products. What they sold you was illegal, and I would make sure she knew that you were not taking this lightly.

That sucks! I've had that happen before too. Did you keep your receipt from the purchase? If not how were you able to show the owner that you purchased it from them 2 years ago? I agree that you should blog it or put it on BBB.
