First Vintage Chanel Bag (in 1980s) or not?

Which one would you recommend?

I've been shopping around for my first Chanel bag for a while and those two caught my eyes! They're all vintage classic flap bags in animal skin. Since I have no experience with buying such an old bag, I'm a little bit concerned about the quality and the durability. I'd love this bag to be with me for a long time as a light weekend bag.

So what's your opinion? Should I go for it or buy a more recent style? If so, which bag would you recommend?

No. 1: Aligator skin. Condition is damaged although I cannot tell from the pictures lol.

No.2: Lizard skin. Condition is excellent.

Appreciate any advise! Thanks!!

If you are willing to pay USD6000+, why not buying a brand new bag from the store?
All concerns fly away.
Yes, they are not exotic leather, but much more modern and with vibrant colours.

I love vintage Chanel, but these are just too expensive for the risks you are taking and the condition. The alligator is even advertised as “damaged”, so I find the prize crazy. Lizard is delicate. And exotics do not really keep value as the market keeps shrinking. So unless you are fixed on a exotic skin bag (which Chanel has stopped producing), I would consider something else.

Yes you’re right. I’m kind of a fan of exotic skin which is no longer available lol. They’re pricey indeed. Thanks everyone for your advice! Just bought this more recent one from BRANDOFF and hopefully it lasts longer:smile:
